Co-MVPs
Deandre Sorrells (Grandview) -The 5’10” senior guard turned in a huge performance in the Bulldogs’ 69-64 victory over St. Mary’s in the state championship game. Sorrells scored a team-high 26 points, including three of four from 3-point range. He also had five assists and three steals while providing strong point guard play and leadership for the back to back state champions. In two state championship game appearances, Sorrells scored a total of 50 points. The young man enjoys the big moments.
Yuri Collins (St. Mary’s) – The 5’10” senior guard nearly willed the Dragons to their first state championship with a tremendous two-day performance in which he averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. A Saint Louis U. recruit, Collins scored 34 points and had four assists and four rebounds in the championship game against Grandview. He also had 21 points, five rebounds and three assists in the Dragons’ victory over Ladue in the semifinals.
The Next Four
Taj Manning (Grandview) – The 6’6″ freshman averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 blocks to help the Bulldogs win the state championship. Manning had 23 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the Bulldogs’ victory over Logan-Rogersville in the semifinals. He added 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the state championship game victory over St. Mary’s. This young man has a bright future ahead of him.
Kamtu Eze (Grandview) – The 6’7″ senior forward came up big in the state championship game with 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots in the Bulldogs victory over St. Mary’s in the state championship game. In last year’s state championship game victory over Raytown South, Eze blocked seven shots.
Jaylen Boyd (Ladue) – The 6’1″ junior guard averaged 15 points a game in the Final Four to lead the Rams to a third-place finish. He scored a game-high 22 points on nine of 13 shooting from the field in the Rams’ 52-45 victory over Logan-Rogersville in the third-place game.
Reggie Morris (Grandview) – The 6’2″ junior guard averaged 14 points in the Bulldogs two victories and a repeat state championship. He scored 20 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the Bulldogs’ victory over Logan-Rogersville in the state semifinals.
