But, for a little peak into the future, we give you our look at those teams to watch next season for each class. This is our way-too-early look at the 1A Rankings heading into the 2019-2020 season.
***Some teams will move classes based on reclassification rules and/or legacy points.
Top Teams 1A:
- Barr-Reeve – Barr-Reeve was again one of the best teams in the state and just couldn’t get past Blackhawk Christian. They won’t have to deal with that next year and bring back a healthy amount of talent. Be on the lookout for another run, maybe stronger this time and more dominant.
- Gary 21st Century – 21st returns Johnell Davis and one of the more high-powered offenses in the state. They were very up-and-down this season but another year, returning a ton of talent, should help with consistency. Look for them to be the best team out of the North.
- University – While they graduate four seniors, this team has quite a few talented kids coming back including Lawrence Pierce, Max Greenamoyer, Cam Brown, and Sam Mervis. They have legit size and shooting ability. Probably one of the tallest teams in 1A.
- Lafayette Central Catholic – If you doubt Central Catholic for a second, they are going to make you pay. Not to mention they bring back the Barrett brothers and the majority of their roster along with A.J. Bordenet. Another dominant year? Probably.
- Christian Academy – Christian Academy was really good this season, better than most realized. They bring back their most important pieces in Bailey Conrad along with guard Nick Conrad. They also have some young talent that could impact the roster next year.
- Oldenburg Academy – Jake Johnson has emerged as a player to watch in the 2020 class and had Oldenburg playing at a high level this season. They return their top 3 scorers and have a ton of size for a 1A team. This could be a tough matchup next year.
- Evansville Day – This team really surprised last season and they were really good down the stretch. They have a game-changer in 1A in Noah Humann who stands 7’ tall and averaged a double-double this season. They bring back all but 6.1 points per game so they could catapult themselves to the top of 1A.
- Bloomfield – They will be rebuilding quite a bit of their roster as they graduate 7 guys but they aren’t without talent still on the roster. Turner Royal has the chance to be a really productive player and will be the base for a Bloomfield team that always seems to be in the mix.
- Greenwood Christian – While they graduate some of their key guards, they have some skill and size coming back in the McCorkle brothers. Both can shoot and post up so matchups will be difficult. Fill in with others and they could be good again, quickly.
- Seton Catholic – This team will be like Bloomfield and Greenwood in that they lose a ton of seniors. But, Jake Moynihan is so tough and guys like Jaden Swiderek can add that shooting. Might need a guy or two but they should be set to go for a Top 10 type team again.
