This is my favorite time of the year because there is so many games throughout the AAU season and it gives us a chance to see players play against each other that we would never really see throughout the course of the high school regular season. Here are a few of the teams that I am really looking forward to seeing in action this summer!
Powerhouse 16U Compton
I am very excited to see what this team can do this summer. I will heavily be following this team around from tournament to tournament due to the high amount of talented players on their roster. Despite losing Dylan Anderson, they are rumored to have brought in some key additions to the team. These additions should become finalized throughout the next couple of days and I think these additions will make the team better overall. They are returning standout players such as DaRon Holmes, Matur Dhal, Carter Van Hammond, Justus Jackson, and Brett Hardt Jr. With all the talent on their roster, it will be hard to make the case that they aren’t the top 16U team in AZ.
Factory 17U
The number one reason I am so intrigued by this team is their scoring potential. Emmanuel Taban, D’Maurian Williams, and Dominic Gonzalez can flat out score the basketball. If all three of these guys return, they could definitely be a problem for teams at the 17U level. I say if these guys return because Taban and Williams are both seniors and Williams played for two club teams last season (PHH UAA & Factory).
Powerhouse UAA
Speaking of PHH UAA, they should be one of the top 17U teams once again this summer. If you look at the guys they could potentially bring back there is loads of talent there. Majok Deng signed with Pepperdine so he will not be playing AAU but there is still a lot of pieces left on that team. This is pure speculation but they could potentially have a team with Otis Frazier, Evan Nelson, Tay Boothman, Lucas Elliott, Jackson Ruai, Kiimani Holt, and Dre Henry. If you ask me, that is a pretty solid squad.
Arizona Supreme EYBL 15U
As mentioned above, Dylan Anderson has left Powerhouse and is now playing for Arizona Supreme on the Nike Circuit. This team should be pretty solid as they have a good coach and talented young players. Coach Boswell will have Anderson, Nate Pickens, and Isaac Garcia on the roster to work with and that will definitely make them one of the top 15U teams.
Powerhouse Tucson 16U
Powerhouse Tucson 15U was a problem last summer! They had a very solid team overall but the two main players on that team were D’Marco Dunn and JT Elder. These two make a great combo and are match up nightmares for opposing teams. They had great success last season, rarely losing games, and I expect the same from them this season.
Team RHJ Supreme
Team RHJ had a very good 15U team last season. They had a couple great games against PHH Tucson 15U last summer, showing that they can absolutely compete with the best in the state. They have a very good coach who is dedicated to his players and they partnered with Arizona Supreme. I only see that as a positive for the Team RHJ program and am very excited to see what they can do this summer.
Team Zona 16U
Team Zona 16U is most likely going to be made up mostly by players who all go to the same high school. With that comes a raised level of team chemistry and familiarity within the team that will allow them to play nicely together. I think the two main players on this team would be JJ White and Bailon Black. Black and White had a great season at Ironwood and really demonstrated why they should be more highly regarded in the basketball community. I think the duo of Black and White will have great success within the state at the 16U level.
*Potential players coming back is pure speculation. Players move around all of the time and there will be an article analyzing multiple AAU rosters once they are locked in after try outs.
