- Ksuan Casey, Madisonville-North Hopkins – Ksuan is the best low block scorer of the group and also the only one holding a D1 offer already. With Casey, the biggest issue is his lack of conditioning. He’s a skilled player that is a tough cover on the block and can stretch the floor. With Ksuan being so young (he’ll graduate high school at 17), he could go to prep school and come out a high major center.
- JJ Traynor, Bardstown – I have been president of the JJ Traynor fan club for about 18 months now but he always flashes just enough potential to keep you wanting more. Long, athletic and skilled, JJ finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds per game as a Junior but he should be getting a double-double at minimum every night out. This is a huge AAU season for Traynor and could be a high major recruit or end up at the D2/NAIA level. It’s really up to him to perform.
- Rashad Bishop, Ballard – A two sport star for the Bruins, Bishop plays with a great motor and plays above the rim. Scoring 11 points and grabbing 6 rebounds per game is not going to blow anyone away but Rashad passes every eye test. He’s probably more likely to play football at the next level but he could see some basketball offers come his way too.
- Noah Courtney, Male – Noah really plays out of position as a post but has had to patrol the block at both the AAU and high school levels for his career up until now. His college position is going to have to be a small forward or stretch 4. Shooting 2 for 17 from three in his Junior year says Courtney needs to be in the gym and getting his jump shot together so he can show coaches that coveted floor stretching ability this spring and summer.
- Alex Matthews, John Hardin – Another post who plays out of position, Alex’s ceiling is limited because he’s an undersized post player. But he is an efficient scorer down low, making 63% of his shots on the season while averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds per game. Matthews could be a great D2 or NAIA post player with his ability to dominate on the block.
Other Names to Know:
- Ray Surratt, Lafayette – Averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds as Junior. Lack of foot speed is biggest concern as a prospect.
- Riley Bodner, Lincoln County – Excellent rim protector, Bodner will need to become more aggressive on offense to impress coaches.
- Eli Roberts, DuPont Manual – Big and strong low post scorer needs to improve as a rebounder and be a double-double machine.
- Mark Goode, LaRue County – One of the state’s most efficient scoring bigs, his recruitment is hurt by not playing AAU.
- Ben Carroll, Greenwood – After a breakout Junior season, Carroll will look to maintain momentum into AAU season.
