How far can Del City go?

How far can Del City go?

This weekend I had the opportunity to scout the Del City Regional bracket. It was my first time seeing Del City in person all year. The Eagles bring a lot to the table as the highest rated team in the state of Oklahoma on the west side of the bracket. The question has been posed to me all year long. Can anyone beat Tulsa Memorial? After seeing Del City I have seen almost every team in Class 5A ranked within the top ten.

To win a state championship you must have several key factors. Of course, teams can win in multiple ways, below is the case I make for Del City.

The Eagles have multiple scorers instead of having one lead guy, which makes it really tough to slow down their attack on offense. 2020 Point Guard Nate Goodlow has taken the next step in his game becoming a shooter teams have to respect to go along with his driving skills. Another 2020 Guard Demontral Crutchfield gives the Eagles another ball handler and scoring option. The senior leaders for the Eagles are what separates them from other teams. Kobe Higgins, Jack, and Jeff Foreman are the senior ring leaders who provide leadership on and off the court. The starting five of Del City can match up with every team in Class 5A. The inside presence of 2020 Forward, Kyren Williams adds a lot of value as the Eagles can defend and rebound inside. Williams is also one of those players who can surprise you with a double-digit scoring output on any given night. Not to mention the presence they have coming off the bench.

Keyondre Young is a 2021 Wing prospect to keep an eye on how he develops with the Eagles over the coming years. As for now, Young gives Del City an energizing presence. The pieces all fit together not only on offense but on defense as well. The quickness and physicality of Del City on defense puts great pressure on opponents.

The Eagles have their work cut out for them over the next two weeks. First thing is first, beat Lawton Mac to get to state. The question I asked to begin the article remains. Can anyone beat the defending champions, Tulsa Memorial? My answer is yes Del City can, in fact, knock off Tulsa Memorial if we end up seeing this matchup in the state tournament. The Eagles have all of the tools to match up the best against Tulsa Memorial. In less than two weeks we will have the answer as to which team in Class 5A is crowned champions.

My pick, Del City.

For more information email Matt@prephoops.com
