February is upon us and with it comes a lot of intrigue on a nightly basis. As league and region races heat up, every game’s importance is heightened. Who is peaking? Who is hoping to get back on track in hopes of a late-season push? Whatever the motives are, there are bound to be big games every night from here on out.
Here are some of the big ones this week in Class B:
Four Winds/Minnewaukan vs. Rugby – Tuesday, Feb. 5
Probably the game of the week in all of North Dakota this week, Four Winds faces Rugby is a game featuring two of the top-five teams in Class B. The Indians just lost to Thompson Saturday and will be looking to reestablish good vibes heading into the last couple weeks of the season while Rugby has a big three-game stretch to end the season against top-end competition. A win here would be a great way to kick that off.
Beulah vs. Shiloh Christian – Tuesday, Feb. 5
Another big Tuesday tilt, Shiloh Christian heads to Beulah to face the Miners in what could be another state tournament preview game. The Miners have a very good guard duo in Chad Morsette and Trey Brandt. Shiloh’s frontcourt duo of Jaden Mitzel and Macauley Young is as good as it gets. The Young vs. Jonah Larson matchup could be one to watch.
Grafton vs. Hillsboro/Central Valley – Thursday, Feb. 7
Here’s not only a matchup that could feature the two finalists in Region 2, but it’s also a tilt headlined by arguably the best guard in the state – Carson Henningsgard of Hillsboro – the best big man in the state – Dalton Albrecht of Grafton. Grafton’s played well since an early-season lopsided loss to Four Winds/Minnewaukan and while Hillsboro just lost to undefeated Ada-Borup out of Class A Minnesota, the Burros are undoubtedly among the state’s elite.
