Class 6A Area 1-5 Tournament Recap

<p>Area tournaments got underway at the beginning of last week. Games were happening all over the state on any given night. Thankfully, we were able to keep up with them for you and have put together a Class 6A Area 1-5 tournament recap, featuring every game and the top performers. </p> <hr /> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Area 1</span></p> <p><em>Semifinal #1: </em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Blount</span> vs. Saraland: 59-50</p> <p>After facing off twice in the regular season, Blount took home the victory both times. This was the story for the matchup on Wednesday night. Despite a close game, Blount edged Saraland by 9 points to advance to the Area 1 Championship game. </p> <p><em>Semifinal #2</em>: <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Baldwin County</span> vs. BC Rain: 69-58</p> <p>BC Rain was able to beat Baldwin County both times that they met in the regular season, and they were able to beat them again Wednesday night. BC Rain didn't mess around and took care of Baldwin County by 11 points to advance to the Area 1 Championship game. </p> <p><em>Finals:</em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Blount</span> vs. BC Rain: 62-49</p> <p>The last time these two teams met, BC Rain lost to Blount by 3 points. When they met on Friday, Blount took care of BC Rain 62-49 to take home the Area 1 Championship. <strong>James Hunter</strong> led the way for the Leopards with 16 points. <strong>Jordan Harris</strong> also added 14 points to their total. </p> <p><em>Area Champion:</em> <strong>Blount</strong></p> <p><em>What's Next?</em></p> <p>-Blount will play Spanish Fort in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Blount High School.</p> <p>-BC Rain will play Daphne in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Daphne High School.</p> <hr /> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Area 2</span></p> <p><em>Semifinal #1</em>: Gulf Shores vs. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Spanish Fort</span>: 63-36</p> <p>Despite two close games in the regular season, Spanish Fort gave Gulf Shores the works and handed them a big loss on Thursday night. This win advanced Spanish Fort to the Area 2 Championship game. <strong>Kris Abrams-Draine</strong> had 16 points in the Toros victory. <strong>Carl Fauntroy</strong> added 12 points to the Spanish Fort total as well. </p> <p><em>Semifinal #2:</em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Daphne</span> vs. Robertsdale: 76-48</p> <p>Daphne had no problem beating Robertsdale the first two times that they met this season, and they had no problem beating them in the area tournament. Daphne beat Robertsdale by 28 points in the area tournament to advance to the Area 2 Championship game. <strong>Terrance Edwards Fleming</strong> had a nice game for Daphne, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. <strong>Benni Gambino</strong> also had a good game with 15 points and 7 assists. <strong>Finn Agee</strong> led the way for Robertsdale with 11 points. </p> <p><em>Finals:</em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Daphne</span> vs. Spanish Fort: 55-38</p> <p>Despite beating Daphne once in the regular season, Spanish Fort was unable to overcome their area rivals. Daphne walked away with the 17 point victory and the Area 2 Championship. Tyler Eubanks led the Trojans with 16 points. For the Toros, <strong>Tyler Eubanks </strong>led the way with 16 points and <strong>Benni Gambino</strong> added 16 points.</p> <p><em>Area Champion:</em> <strong>Daphne</strong></p> <p><em>What's Next?</em></p> <p>-Daphne will play BC Rain in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Daphne High School.</p> <p>-Spanish Fort will play Blount in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Blount High School.</p> <hr /> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Area 3</span></p> <p><em>Semifinals: </em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Northview</span> vs. Dothan: 56-48</p> <p>In the final game of a 40-year rivalry, Northview took the final win. Before the schools combine, they were able to play one final game in the Area 3 tournament. Northview edged Dothan by 8 points to survive and advance to the Area 3 Championship game. <strong>Jabre Barber</strong> had 13 points for Northview and <strong>Tyshun Hicks</strong> had 12 points. <strong>Elijah Allen</strong> put up 16 points for Dothan and <strong>Malik Gill</strong> added 9 points. </p> <p><em>Finals: </em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Eufaula</span> vs. Northview: 83-63</p> <p>Eufaula handled Northview twice in the regular season and took care of business in the championship game Thursday night. Northview suffered a 20 point loss and handed Eufaula the Area 3 Championship. <strong>Jabre Barber</strong> put up 18 points for Northview and <strong>Tyshun Hicks</strong> added 12 points. <strong>Jadarious Blackshire</strong> led Eufaula with 16 points and<strong> LaGuaveus Nelson</strong> and <strong>Rodarius Thomas</strong> both had 15 points. </p> <p><em>Area Champion: </em><strong>Eufaula</strong></p> <p><em>What's Next?</em></p> <p>-Eufaula will play Carver (Montgomery) in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Eufaula High School.</p> <p>-Northview will play Sidney Lanier in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 6 pm at Walker Joiner Gymnasium.</p> <hr /> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Area 4</span></p> <p><em>Semifinal: </em>Park Crossing vs. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Carver</span>: 59-48</p> <p>Despite their best effort, the Thunderbirds were unable to defeat Carver in their first-round matchup in the area tournament. Carver took care of Park Crossing in the regular season both times that they met, and they were able to do it again on Tuesday night. This win advanced Carver to the Area 4 Championship game.</p> <p><em>Final:</em> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Sidney Lanier</span> vs. Carver: 44-39</p> <p>Sidney Lanier was able to take care of Carver in the Area 4 Championship game to give them the title. After a hard fought game, Carver fell 5 points short of winning an area championship and Sidney Lanier took home the Area 4 Championship. <strong>Zyon Smith</strong> had an impressive game for Carver, with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.</p> <p><em>Area Champion: </em><strong>Sidney Lanier</strong></p> <p><em>What's Next?</em></p> <p>-Sidney Lanier will play Northview in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 6 pm at Walker-Joiner Gym.</p> <p>-Carver will play Eufaula in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Eufaula High School.</p> <hr /> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Area 5</span></p> <p><em>Semifinal: </em>Wetumpka vs. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Stanhope-Elmore</span>: 55-46</p> <p>After losing twice to Stanhope-Elmore in the regular season, some may have thought this would be a runaway game. However, that was not the case. Well, not until overtime anyways. The game took five periods to decide a winner, but in the fifth, it was all Stanhope-Elmore. Their 9 point victory advanced them to the Area 5 Championship game. <strong>Jahsan Upshaw</strong> and <strong>Cornelius Wright</strong> both put up 15 points for Stanhope-Elmore to help them win the game. </p> <p><em>Final: </em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Selma</span> vs. Stanhope-Elmore: 50-49</p> <p>If you thought the semifinal game was the best game of the tournament, you'd be wrong. Down by 2 points 7 seconds left in the game, Selma thought it might be over. Then, Stanhope-Elmore made the mistake of fouling Jarvis Moss, who was able to knock down all 3 free throws and give Selma the lead and Area 5 Championship. <strong>Jarvis Moss</strong> finished the game with 17 points for Selma.</p> <p><em>Area Champion:</em> <strong>Selma</strong></p> <p><em>What's Next?</em></p> <p>-Selma will play Hillcrest in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Selma High School.</p> <p>-Stanhope Elmore will play Paul Bryant in the Sub-Regional matchup on 2/12/19 at 7 pm at Paul Bryant High School.</p> <hr /> <p>For more tournament action, check out our <a href="https://prephoops.com/2019/02/class-6a-area-6-10-tournament-recap/">Class 6A Area 6-10 Tournament recap.</a></p>
