Continue ReadingThe Fire Marshall was close to being called in here for this 2nd Round SCHSL Playoff Game. The Cougars drove up from Chucktown to face the Auctioneers in a rowdy gym to say the least. Spectators were still working there way into the game at the 3:00 mark of the 2nd quarter. The Auctioneers jumped out and led 22-15 at halftime in a foul fest.
Both teams started to play a bit better in the 2nd half before the Auctioneers would put the Cougars away for good in a 65-48 victory. The Auctioneers now get to travel over to Columbia to play Gray Collegiate Academy on Tuesday at Allen University.
MVP : Alim Legette (2021) – Mullins HS
Legette was a big factor around the basket all night long for the Auctioneers. Legette was cleaning upon the glass and constantly around the ball. Legette 6’4 finished everything from 2 feet in and never seemed to roam outside the paint. Legette finished the night with 13 points and a ton of rebounds. Legette plays with a HIGH MOTOR that was on all cylinders tonight.
Offensive Player of the Game : Jordan Brantley (2019) – Mullins HS
Brantley makes the engine go for the Auctioneers. Brantley a left-handed slashing guard can score the ball in a hurry and usually does it with a nice mi-range game. Brantley plays very aggressive on the offensive end and really likes to attack the basket. Brantley finished with 16 points in the win.
Best Player Under 5’11 : CJ Gilchrist (2020) – Mullins HS
Gilchrist finished with 22 points after hitting 7-8 free throws in the last 32 seconds of the game. Gilchrist is not afraid to put the ball up at times and will force some shots. Gilchrist plays with a fearless attitude tonight ignited a few big runs for the Auctioneers with his play.
Best Natural Scorer : Darjawuan Brown (2020) – North Charleston HS
Brown has been a scorer all season long for the Cougars. Brown came into the game averaging 26.1 ppg and finished the night with 17 points. Brown didn’t hit his first field goal from the floor until the 3rd quarter. Brown had 1,042 career points heading into the game. Brown was named Region Player of the Year this season.
Non Factors Tonight : Marquez Terry (2019), Dashawn Murray (2020) and Ralph Holmes (2021) – North Charleston HS
This trio of players from North Charleston HS really struggled tonight vs the home town Auctioneers. Terry a left-handed shooting guard finished with just 8 points while Holmes and Murray contributed 6 and 4 points respectively. The trio provided just 18 points in the playoffs loss.
