10) Asa Shannon | 6’5” | Episcopal (#36 Overall)
Shannon continues to develop his overall skill set, and while doing so he’s showed great work ethic and improvement over the past few seasons. Blessed with a good frame for the game and athleticism, Shannon has shown the ability to make plays for others, guard multiple positions and score it in transition. He’ll continue to improve and should continue to see jumps in his game moving forward.
9) Christian DePollar | 6’5” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes (#33 Overall)
Recently committed to Air Force, DePollar is a jack-of-all-trades kind of wing with a smooth game all-around. He has good length and decent bounce, he’s a very smart player who’s always in the right place at the right time and he has a smooth lefty stroke that’s money from deep. His mix of savvy and smart play along with the ability to shoot the ball should help DePollar transition to the next level easily.
8) Bryce Waterman | 6’5” | Virginia Episcopal School (#32 Overall)
Speaking of shooting, there may not be anyone on this list who flat out shoots the basketball as well at Waterman. Since coming to VES from Albany, NY the 6’5” wing continues to show that not only is he a good shooter, but he doesn’t need much room or time to get his shot off because he has good size and a quick release. He’s also improved his body and defense and sports a 3.3 GPA too.
7) DeArvae Heard | 6’3” | Miller School (#31 Overall)
The Miller School senior has had a terrific high school career and is the ultimate case of sacrificing yourself for the greater good of the team. The stocky wing plays and guards multiple positions for the Mavericks and he’s effective and productive wherever they play him. He rebounds and defends well, he has a great middle game and a good feel and motor on both ends of the floor.
6) Shawn Walker | 6’5” | Bishop Sullivan (#25 Overall)
Committed to Sienna and new Head Coach Jamion Christian, Walker joined Bishop Sullivan this year after being at Wesleyan Christian in North Carolina. A bouncy wing with great size, Walker is a two-way impact guy who can play above the rim in transition, guard on the perimeter and in the post and has a solid skill set as well. Walker’s high motor and energy he plays with means he’ll likely transition well and should get better with more time.
5) Julien Wooden | 6’7” | Northside (#13 Overall)
Wooden committed to JMU and this season he’s showing something we didn’t know he could do which is handle the basketball. He’s handling the ball against pressure, getting them into their sets and creating shots for himself and for others. I don’t think he’ll be a ball handler in college but it’s an added bonus to an already long and athletic 6’7” guy with tons of tools on both ends who plays the game the right way.
4) Jamon Battle | 6’5” | LC Bird (#10 Overall)
A two sport star who will ultimately choose basketball when it’s all said and done, Battle has all of the physical and athletic tools to be a high level college player. He’s a big time finisher above the rim in transition, he’s a capable and versatile defender and he’s able to attack the glass on both ends with his athleticism. Where he thrives offensively is in isolation and downhill situations where he’s a solid ball handler and he’s able to use his size in the paint to create space and score.
3) Mike Christmas | 6’6” | Landstown (#9 Overall)
Another JMU commit on this list, Christmas has been a factor in the 757 since he was a freshman. The 6’6” wing can play on the perimeter or in the post, he’s a good catch-and-shoot guy and he’s a solid rebounder on both ends. He’s a good leaper who’s quick off his feet and isn’t afraid to challenge someone at the rim on both ends, and those two things should translate well for him at the next level.
2) Zac Ervin | 6’5” | Gate City (#8 Overall)
Ervin has had such a tremendous career what more could he do? Well, if he continues the pace he’s at now and Gate City is able to make another run at a state title, Ervin could possibly break former teammate Mac McClung’s career scoring title. The 6’5” wing has a great frame and is able to make shots from all over the floor. He can play on or off the ball to get his shots and when he gets it going he’s able to make some very tough shots. He’s committed to Wofford and should fit their system perfectly.
1) Christian Brown | 6’7” | Oak Hill (#4 Overall)
Nationally ranked and one of the top available players in the country, Brown has a lot of physical and athletic tools that will translate well to the next level. He’s big enough to give you minutes and defend in the post but he’s also athletic and long enough to do the same on the wing. He’s able to catch and shoot when he’s open, he can put it on the deck in transition and he’s a big time athlete that can finish way above the rim. His intensity and athleticism on both ends should make him an immediate impact wherever he goes and he still has a lot of room to grow on both ends.
