The city of Ann Arbor has a rich basketball history in its own right. The town has seen great players like LaVell Blanchard and EJ Bates. It’s been the home of classic teams like the 2010 Ann Arbor Huron state finalist team and last years Ann Arbor Skyline team that had an undefeated regular season.
This year has the potential to be unique for Ann Arbor prep basketball. Two of the best high school basketball players in Michigan attend high schools in the city of Ann Arbor. Drew Lowder is a dynamic point guard for Ann Arbor Pioneer. Prep Hoops Michigan has him ranked as the #3 senior prospect in the state. Ryan Wade is an electric shooting guard for Ann Arbor Skyline. He is ranked as the #4 senior prospect in the state by Prep Hoops Michigan. Both players have had excellent senior seasons and will be teammates next season at Holy Cross. Lowder and Wade have earned the right to be named finalists for the 2019 Mr. Basketball. The award should have a distinct Ann Arbor feel in 2019.
Drew Lowder (6’0″, PG, Ann Arbor Pioneer)
Lowder might be the most exciting player in Michigan. He has a quick first step and amazing handles. Lowder gets a defender leaning, switches them up, and blows by them. He has a nice looking jumper and can bury a 3 from the top and from the corner. Lowder is a scoring point guard that is averaging over 20ppg, 6apg, and 4 rpg.
Ryan Wade (6’3″, SG, Ann Arbor Skyline)
You have to see Wade play to truly appreciate his game. He’s an elite three point shooter in Michigan. Wade has the ability to get hot from deep and single handedly change the course of a game. Ryan Wade has become best known for his lockdown defense. He uses his wingspan to engulf the offensive player and to keep himself in passing lanes.
