Luckily for them, Virginia is full of guys who can play at all of the levels and are balling out their senior year. Over the next week or so, I’ll be doing best available lists for guards, wings and bigs. There’s a lot of names I want to get out there, so to make things easier I broke them up into different parts.
Here’s a look at the part two of the best available bigs in VA.
Mack Burgett | 6’6” | LC Bird
A good system guy, Burgett plays much bigger than he is at 6’6” with great length and he can step outside and shoot the ball. He’s a hard worker with a lot of toughness, he boards it well and is versatile in the press. He’s the ultimate glue guy and comes from a winning program as well.
Daniel Deaver | 6’7” | George Marshall
Deaver is a throw back kind of big man that can score it in a number of ways in the post. He has the total package with different fakes, spins and creative finishes with both hands. He can step out to the midrange and shoot it and face up and he’s a good passer as well. Super productive and hard guard in the post.
Ian Anderson | 6’7” | Potomac Falls
Another guy who could fit the right system really well, Anderson is big, skilled and smart. He can score on the block with both hands, he can step out and shoot the basketball and he can finish above the rim as well. He’s a step out four with good skill and a high academic kid as well.
Trey Barber | 6’8” | Christ Chapel
Barber is a late bloomer with a lot of upside. At 6’8” he isn’t the most athletic guy but he’s long, gets off his feet well and he has good timing as a shot blocker. He plays with a high motor, he can score on the block and out to the midrange and he has a lot of room to grow on the offensive end.
Caleb Mauldin | 6’7” | Fork Union
Mauldin is a highly productive scoring big man who is a little bit of a throwback himself. He’s not the most athletic guy but he seals well, understands angles, has the whole repertoire in the post and has a high motor and good understanding of the game. He’s a guy who can score and rebound with the best of them.
Detionne Leach | 6’5” | Phoebus
An undersized but athletic big man, Leach has a great frame and is a good athlete who plays much bigger than he is. He can play above the rim, he’s a strong finisher through contact and he’s able to switch and guard perimeter guys as well. He’s productive and plays with a high motor continuously.
Cameron Timmons | 6’9” | Highland School
Timmons is a massive guy who has dropped some weight and is getting more mobile and athletic now moving forward. He has good hands and feet, he can finish with both hands in the paint and just his presence in the post is altering because he takes up so much space and can contest shots without really leaving his feet.
