In a battle of unbeatens, Potter’s House clawed back from more than 14 down to take the game into overtime. The final 3 point shot by Potter’s house which would have tied it was declared to have been shot after the final buzzer. The game ended after one overtime marking a hard loss for the Pumas of Potter’s House. Pewamo-Westphalia goes to 7-0 and Potter’s House falls to 6-1.
The Pirates jumped out to a lead and looked like they were going to put the game away but the resiliency of the Pumas prevailed. The Pirates took a ten point lead into the second quarter but their shots were going in and out and the Pumas cut the lead to 4 with a 7 point run to end the half.
Coming out of halftime it was obvious that Coach Kuipers from Potter’s House stressed the importance of defense and rebounding as they held the Pirates to 17 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Unfortunately, the Pirates came out in OT and scored 10 points and hit some key free throws down the stretch.

MVP: Ben Clark ( Potter’s House)
The senior guard finished with 26 points played a terrific game pushing the ball up the court and providing the offensive spark they needed to climb back into the contest. Clark provided the type of senior leadership that allows teams to stay in games when they are struggling to get points.
Play of the game: Case Medema (Potter’s House) and Colin Trieweiler (Pewamo-Westphalia)
Medema was struggling from the field but with 52 seconds to play Case Medema hit a 3-pointer to tie the game in overtime. And then Treiweiler split the Pumas defense for a confident drive up the Pirates up 2 with 14 seconds to play.
Best offensive performance: Ben Clark (Potter’s House)
Not only did Clark lead all scorers with 26 points but his aggresive drives and kicks left other Pumas’ players open for shots. He knocked down three 3 pointers and was 7 for 7 from the free throw line.
Best defensive performance: Daniel Lee (Potter’s House) and Odasi Irankunda (Potter’s House)
These two players pestered the Pirates’ guards all second half. They hounded the Pirates PG Collin Trierweiler from end to end. It was their energy that inspired the rest of the team.
Best guy off the bench: Keegan Smith (Pewamo-Westphalia)
He came in and knocked down a couple 3 pointers and finished with 8 points.
Best intangibles: Hunter Hengesbach (Pewamo-Westphalia)
He did it all. Rebounded, scored and played defense. He finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. He scored 4 points in overtime. His ability to keep balls alive on the offensive glass was one of the big reasons the Pirates got a lot of second and third looks.
Best under-the-radar performance: Colin Trieweiler (Pewamo-Westphalia)
Trieweiler was pressured the whole second half he remained calm and collected. He controlled the tempo and never lost his composure. Keep an eye on this player in the future.
Best rebounder: Nyuon Nihal (Potter’s House)
He finished with 10 rebounds and was effective at keeping balls alive in the paint.
Most passionate coaching move: Luke Pohl (Pewamo-Westphalia)
Hollaring for the refs attention with 16 seconds left and with the ball, Coach Pohl screams for a time out and slips and falls on the floor. Not missing a beat his pops back up and gathers his team. Nice work Coach.
