“Basically, my coach always says ‘Next man up’”, Chandler Lawson said. “With my brother and I out of the game, Kevin was one of the key players to step up and maintain the lead and just keep our composure to make sure everything was good on the court.”
Chandler Lawson notched a double-double (27 points, 17 rebounds) while his brother added 24 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as the Cardinals (13-2, 4-1) won their seventh straight game, 76-62 over Trezevant. Brown finished with 10 points and four steals. Chandler Lawson also had four blocks and four assists.

Johnathan Lawson put the game away from the free throw line, making 5 of 8 shots.
“You just have to stay composed and stay ready at all time,” Chandler Lawson said when he was asked about the fourth quarter push. “You never know how the game is going to flow. You just have to be the man when the time comes at the end of the game.”
Brown led Trezevant with 24 points. He went 12 for 14 from the free throw line. Williams added 13, and Kris Smith provided 10 for the Bears.
3 takeaways
- Chandler Lawson has played with a loaded Memphis East team in year’s past that has went on a long winning streak. Some of his teammates aren’t used to this type of winning, so he’s been telling them to stay grounded.
- Jalen Brown led Trezevant in scoring. He’s one of the top sophomores in the state of Tennessee and will continue to progress as the season moves along.
- The Bears couldn’t capitalize when Johnathan and Chandler Lawson went to the bench in the second quarter. Brown, a gritty guard, and company refused to allow Trezevant to end the team’s winning streak.
