Continue ReadingThis weeks was rough on the rankings. We had a lot of Top 25 teams playing each other and a few upsets. Keep in mind that we factor in strength of schedule. The quality of an opponent is crucial. We had some teams leapfrog over teams because of that.
Wasatch Academy is (9-0) as they worked every team with ease in the Great-Western Shootout held at Orem High School. Lone Peak also dominated teams which helped them move up the later although they have one loss. There are 21 teams after week 3 that are still undefeated, we expect that to be cut in half by the end of the week.
Corner Canyon got a huge boost with the return of Trace Ross and John Mitchell is playing basketball again after a year off.
This years scoring has been crazy. We are even more impressed with the coaches and players that commit to defense because it is a rarity these days.
6A
1. Pleasant Grove
2. American Fork
3. Bingham
4. Westlake
5. Lone Peak
*This is why the UHSAA should allow the best teams to be in the state tournament rather than just four from every region. Kearns is playing well but struggled against a terrible Murray team. Weber is undefeated but they have a long way to go. Bingham was a beast this weekend and gave AF all they could handle. Region 4 is for real.
5A
1. Bountiful
2. Olympus
3. Skyridge
4. East
5. Jordan
* 5A has some hope as teams have film of Olympus loosing. Bountiful is playing well and they’re playing top competition. Skyridge is good but they’ve only beat up on sub-par teams. East will put it all on the line this week against Bountiful. Jordan will be tested against Farmington tomorrow.
4A
1. Juan Diego
2. Orem
3. Bear River
4. Dixie
5. Desert Hills
* Juan Diego is hanging on by a thread to the top 4A spot as Orem is beating some good teams with team play. Orem play AF on Friday, that game should be interesting. Bear River is undefeated against bad teams. Dixie has one quality win against an out of state team.
3A
1. South Sevier
2. Grand
3. Manti
4. Providence Hall
5. Delta
* Delta has played some tough teams and have a dynamic scorer in Derek Smith. South Sevier and Grand will be tough teams to face as well.
2A
1. Parowan
2. Layton Christian
3. Gunnison
4. Kanab
5. Beaver
* LCA is good but Parowan is playing well. Look for all these tams do whatever they can to knock of LCA by all means.
1A
1. Wendover
2. Telos
3. Intermountain Christian
4. Tabiona
5. Panguitch
* Wendover is for real and they’re playing against tough teams. The rural communities are probably upset that a few private schools are playing well but they just need to play better.
