Sunrise Christian traveled to the Lone Star State for the third time in the last 45 days to compete in a rematch with South Garland at the ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest. Last year, South Garland came away victorious; however, it was the Buffaloes going home with the victory this go round. Here is the nationally ranked talent that stood out in the heavily spectated matchup:
N’Faly Dante / 7’0″ / C / Sunrise Christian / 2020
South Garland could not defend the size and length of Dante. He elevated and used his long arms to block shots and grab boards with a vengeance. Offensively, Dante dunked everything possible when receiving the ball in the low post. However, the best part of him game was his ability to make accurate skip passes from the post to find open shooters on the perimeter. The highly touted big man finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and handful of assists. His efforts earned himself Game MVP honors.
Grant Sherfield / 6’2″ / SG / Sunrise Christian / 2019
Sherfield’s decision to attend Sunrise was a great move for both parties. He is placed in a position where he does not even need to consider facilitating full-time. Scoring the rock is the only thing he focuses on, which is what he did against South Garland. The UCLA signee put up 19 points in the win.
Austin Crowley / 6’4″ / SG / Sunrise Christian / 2019
Crowley did everything a coach would want an off-ball guard to do. He knocked down open shots from deep, finished strong at the rim on the break, and was active defensively. The Mississippi native has a chance to make an instant impact at Vanderbilt with his ability to produce at a high rate within a system offense. He scored 18 points, grabbed three boards, and dished out a few assists in the game.
Tyrese Maxey / 6’4″ / SG / South Garland / 2019 PHTX 200-2019 (1)
Tyrese Maxey was in takeover mode in the second half, but it was not enough to get his team the win. He kept South Garland in the game and his scoring efforts made the matchup competitive. His body control and consistent ability to get a comfortable look at the basket in traffic definitely will translate to the highest of levels. The Kentucky signee had a game-high 25 points in the loss.
