Last night, in front of Lehigh Head Coach Brett Reed and George Mason Head Coach Dave Paulsen, Hairston dropped 27 points on 6 of 10 from three and handed out 5 dimes to go along with 4 steals and 3 turnovers. After the game, he caught up with Prep Hoops to discuss recruitment among other topics.
PH: I heard Lehigh just offered you. Is that true?
JH: “Yes. They offered me, and it was a great feeling.”
PH: What did they tell you? Do they want you for 2019 or 2020?
JH: “They want me for 2020. They said I really fit their program. They liked my IQ, and they think I can really help them in the future.”
PH: Who else is recruiting you?
JH: “Delaware State, Boston University, and Dartmouth.”
PH: Are those all 2020 offers?
JH: “Those are all 2019 offers. This is my first 2020 offer.”
PH: Describe your team’s performance today. You obviously had a good matchup with Xavier Johnson. What was your mindset going into the game?
JH: “We knew they were going to be a tough opponent. Xavier is a really talented kid. So we had to stay focused the whole game. I feel like everybody played to their potential. We just went out there and got the job done.
PH: What was the message from your coach after the game?
JH: “He liked how we came together. When things weren’t going our way, we never dropped our heads. He also said we need to work on preventing threes.”
PH: What are your goals?
JH: “Short term goals are to win each game. One game at a time. We want to win the conference, then we want to go win states. We want to be the best team in Flint Hill history.”
PH: Have you been to Lehigh campus before?
JH: “I went up there last month. It was different. Half the campus was like in a city and the other half in a rural area.”
PH: Have you watched their team play?
JH: “Yes. I’ve watched them on TV. They can really shoot the ball. They move it well. They talk and defend.”
PH: How do you see yourself fitting in at the next level?
JH: “I feel like I will contribute. Based off my mindset and what I’ve experienced at the high school level, I feel like I will be able to bond with my teammates and contribute on the floor.
PH: When are you going to decide whether or not you’ll go 2019 or 2020?
JH: “Probably when we get closer to states. That will be my final decision.”
