Some may recognize the name for his recent play that resulted in a record-setting 45 points against Wichita-South. Others may know him as the defensive specialist from Wichita-East who played under Joe Jackson before transferring to West.
Regardless of how you do or do not know the name, the 6’3” guard is doing some special things at West.
What he is doing from baseline to baseline isn’t easy to do, averaging nearly 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and over two steals a game.
Ask him about his accomplishments and he will tell you that it means nothing unless his team is winning. Ask him about his goals for this season and he will tell you that he wants to win at least 12 games, win sub-state, and get a chance at the tournament.
Why does he want to do that? For his teammates who have endured the painful process of winning 3 games over the past two seasons. Honestly speaking, he’s an unselfish young man who puts the needs of others before himself.
Milan also played football for West at receiver and corner and has played since he was four years old. His work on the gridiron has earned him a lot of interest from schools at many levels, although he loves the game of basketball as well.
Milan describes his game in the past as just a slasher, but now he says he’s an all-around playmaker and can/will do anything for the team to help them win.
He played his AAU ball for River City Blue but also spent a lot of time with his head coach, Tommy Brumbelow, at West.
Coach Brumbelow has been working with him and gearing him up for this season, Milan attributes his early success to the work that Coach has put in with him.
Milan appreciates the fact that Coach Brumbelow genuinely cares about him and his teammates and just wants the best for them as the season progresses.
If you go back two years, some would have thought Milan wasn’t going to make it but the young man has overcome tremendous adversity in his life to put himself and our program in a position to be successful said Coach Brumbelow.
“He has a toughness that is unmatched” says Coach Brumbelow, “Every night he takes on the challenge of guarding the other team’s best player regardless of their position. On top of giving maximum defensive effort he still finds ways to be effective on the offensive side of the floor.”
Brumbelow continued on to say that Milan is a young man that will do whatever it takes to help the team win every time he steps onto the court.
When asked about the rest of the season, Milan said “The best is yet to come.” So far they have matched their wins from last year and will certainly surpass that mark in early January.
Milan told me that he will most likely play football next year in college and currently has an offer and visit scheduled at Butler Community College but would be very open to the opportunity of playing both football and basketball next season.
