Prep Hoops was in the building all weekend and came away impressed with the performances of several underclassmen. Here are some of the prospects increased their stock over the weekend.
6’1 So Anton Brookshire – Kickapoo (PH MO #3)
Anton’s big weekend has been well documented throughout the course of the weekend. They faced two of the best that Arkansas and Oklahoma have to offer and the super sophomore was feeling himself. The versatile scoring guard buried 6 threes and dropped 30 on North Little Rock. He followed that up with a big second half performance in a huge victory over Tulsa Memorial where he finished with 17. He is a standout on both ends of the floor and is in line for a big year. When you are already a top 3 prospect in your state there isn’t much room to rise, but look for the high major offers to start rolling in for Anton.
6’0 So Cameron Liggans – Kickapoo
Another piece to an impressive sophomore class at Kickapoo, Cameron impressed us with his confidence and shot making ability against high level competition. He hit 3 big three-pointers to keep his team in the game against North Little Rock. He expanded and elevated his game the next night against a stacked Tulsa Memorial team. He buried a pair of triples and attacked the lane finishing with two smooth floaters over the top of the trees in the lane. He finished with 14 in the Chiefs big win. Look for his role to continue to grow as the season progresses.
5’9 So Drew McMillin – Republic
Young drew put on a show against a Tulsa Memorial team loaded with D1 talent and athleticism. He’s a dead-eye shooter from beyond the arc but we came away more impressed by his fearless ability to operate in the lane against competition literally a foot taller than him. He curls screens hard and finishes with a nice floater and pull-up game. He’s a high IQ player who backdoor cut the defense and finished with contact. Keep an eye out for this one to be a household name in the years to come.
6’3 Jr Jadon Gilpin – Glendale (PH MO #47)
The junior wing established himself against a good KC Central team on Saturday. He was assertive and aggressive and took opportunities to drive by pressure, showing his ability to finish well inside. He’s at his best slashing and getting out in transition and doesn’t shy away from the clutch moment as proven by his buzzer beating finish to end the 3rd quarter in a tight game.
6’5 Jr Will Morrison – Springfield Catholic
The junior forward came off the bench and was the X-factor in the Irish knocking off Eminence, snapping their 33 game winning streak. He has a strong frame and plays with high energy. He displayed a smooth mid-range jumper and thrived under pressure. He had a big steal and lay-in to beat the buzzer in the first quarter and had a huge “And-1” finish late in the tight ballgame.
6’0 Jr Dontae Taylor – Parkview (PH MO #17)
A three year starter for the Vikings, Taylor didn’t post huge scoring numbers over the weekend (although he is more than capable). However, he impressed with his ability to command the floor, run the show, and make his teammates better. He is a high IQ dimer with great vision. He had several slick assists where he thread the needle through spaces that only he could see. With a talented group around him, he is primed for a big year.
6’0 Jr Will Hill – Tulsa Memorial (PH OK #21)
The Boone twins bring plenty of star power to the Chargers, but their junior point guard Will Hill is the next big thing to come out of Tulsa Memorial. Highly ranked by Prep Hoops Oklahoma, Will is a head up point guard who sees the floor very well and makes all the right plays. His teammates draw a great deal of attention and he consistently shows great decision making skills in terms of finding them when help comes or getting buckets himself. He is definitely one to keep an eye on.
