Continue ReadingWith the new format to the season, we are looking to do more full on player breakdowns. They will come on Fridays and Sundays. This version is our full-week breakdown with games from Monday to Saturday. This week I watched Brownsburg vs. La Lumiere and Avon vs. Danville.
Cameron Alford – 2019 – 6’2 PG – Brownsburg
Alford got to the rim at an elite level and La Lumiere really didn’t have any chance to stop him. A quick first step and speed with the ball allows him to get by almost anyone on the floor. The knock on Alford right now is hit unwillingness to shoot the ball. Teams don’t respect his shooting so eventually they are going to force him to shoot. Shooting the ball is the next step in his development.
Pierce Thomas – 2021 – 6’6 SG – Brownsburg
From this time last year, Thomas looks a lot better. His shot still isn’t falling but it certainly looks a ton better than it did last year. I would say that it looks a little more repetitive and he does look a little more confident in it. When it starts to fall, watch out. Thomas is the most athletic player in the state and he can get to the rim. Will become an elite player when the shot is fixed.
Reis Thomas – 2019 – 6’4 PF – Brownsburg
Thomas, the older brother of Pierce, is a little less athletic and holds a bigger body. Thomas is an elite defender and really gave Brooks all he could handle. The offense is still growing, although I don’t think there is a ton of potential there. He can score inside a little bit but he is more of that lockdown defender that teams need to be successful. Very good football player so he might end up going that route. Much quicker than you would expect him to be.
Malek Edmonds – 2020 – 6’7 PF – Brownsburg
Edmonds looked good last year when I saw him and in this game he was utilized as the five man but he was also running plays on the perimeter. Edmonds has the ability to shoot the ball and is pretty versatile. Didn’t play a ton in this one due to foul trouble but you can see he is an integral part to Brownsburg. Very bouncy and long.
Gerald Drumgoole – 2019 – 6’5 SG – La Lumiere
Drumgoole is a huge shooting guard who is also a high level tight end in football. He was the most impressive player that I saw on the day from any team. He can shoot it a little bit and he can take it to the rim. Long on defense and he doesn’t back down from anyone. Could be really solid on the court at the next level if he focuses on basketball
Wendell Green – 2020 – 5’11 PG – La Lumiere
Green was a really solid lead guard for La Lumiere. He is very quick and is pretty good on defense. He needs to work on his shot selection though because he was getting to the rim and then putting up bad shots. Good shooter from deep who might start to rely on that shot a little more as the year progresses.
Keion Brooks – 2019 – 6’8 SF – La Lumiere
Brooks looked a lot more fluid than he did last year. He’s a high level scorer who is going to really score as much as he wants, whenever he wants. Brooks has filled out and is now able to do much more than last year. Brooks pulled up for a deep ball a few times in this one and that part of his game is looking really good right now. A high level player and scorer.
Paxson Wojcik – 2019 – 6’4 SG – La Lumiere
Wojcik was pretty effective shooting the ball in this one. He has an edge to his game and that will carry over to the next level. Really like to watch him play the game because his basketball IQ is through the roof. Struggled a bit at times but I think that was in part to taking Brownsburg a little lightly. Tremendous low-major option at shooting guard.
Le’Angelo Saravia – 2019 – 5’11 SG – Avon
Saravia shot the ball really well in this one. He has a really weird looking shot, so I wouldn’t count on him hitting all the time but he did make four 3-pointers in this one. A small guard who comes off the bench and plays with a lot of energy. Not sure that he is projected at the next level but I am sure a few small D3’s will give him a look.
Wendell DeMyers – 2019 – 6’3 SG – Avon
DeMyers played a lot better in this one than in the first game I saw him play this year. Scored the ball pretty well at the rim and didn’t settle for those dumb outside shots. DeMyers is pretty athletic which helps him get to the rim and in this one he attacked much better than in the previous game.
Mason Miller – 2020 – 5’11 SG – Avon
Miller is a very athletic small guard who will really impress you with his leaping ability. Miller is a high volume shooter and will tend to get them to go down more often than not. Struggled a bit in this one shooting the ball but you can see the shot is there. If he adds a little strength and ability to get to the basket over the summer he could develop nicely.
Dillon Ware – 2020 – 6’6 PF – Danville
Ware just want not just impressive to me. He looked very projectable as a freshman but over the past two years hasn’t developed much at all. He is growing into his body a little bit better but still didn’t show much offense in the game. Most of his points were scored right at the rim off of put backs. I want to see him become more assertive in order to take the next step.
Connor Jones – 2019 – 6’3 SG – Danville
Jones was really solid in this one and projects as a D3 guard. He does a bit of everything for Danville. He an score the ball, rebound, and pass the ball well – but none at elite levels. He’s a thicker guard who has no problem with the smaller guards down in the post. Jones is going to be a stat sheet stuffer for Danville this year.
Sam Comer – 2020 – 6’4 SG – Danville
Comer has developed nice over the last few years and played fairly well in this one. Danville is going to have to rely on him to have big games because they don’t really have any other weapons. Comer runs the floor really well and is starting to get to the rim really well too. He’s long and lengthy making him a sought after defender at the next level. He shoots the ball well from the perimeter but still just needs to gain a little strength
