LIBERTY, Mo. — The final game of the annual 810Varsity Tip Off classic featured Maranatha, Free State, Schlagle, Lawrence and Shawnee Mission North competing against five KC area teams from the Missouri side.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several wings who raised their profile at the event.
Noah Butler, 6’5, G/F, 2019, Free State
Butler had it all working on Saturday, showcasing his all-around game. He scored inside, he scored outside, he threw down one monster slam after another … and he finished with an event-high 31 points in the process. Long known for his rare combination of strength, size and athleticism, Butler has taken his game to new heights this season and is playing with newfound confidence. He is poised for a monster senior season and is sure to draw the attention of Division I programs in the process.
DK Middleton, 6’2, G/F, 2020, Free State
Middleton is an intriguing prospect who brings terrific size and a well-rounded skill set to the floor. He plays much bigger than his listed 6’2 height and can handle it on the perimeter, score around the basket and has a feel for passing and playmaking. Middleton also showed off his range out beyond the 3-point arc and the ability to shoot from distance off the dribble and went for 21 points in the Firebirds’ win over Blue Springs on Saturday. He’s an underrated prospect entering the upcoming season.
Brian Parker, 6’3, G/F, 2019, Schlagle
Parker was a force on Saturday as a one-man clean-up crew around the rim. He cleaned up offensive rebounds, opposing players as they drove the lane as he blocked several shots and threw down several slam dunks. He’s one of the state’s premier athletes and is an underrated performer. His offense is mostly along the baseline and in the paint at the offensive end, but he is an impact player at both ends of the floor and finished with 19 points to lead Schlagle in a loss to Lee’s Summit West on Saturday.
Savonni Shazor, 6’7, G/F, 2019, Lawrence
Shazor brings size, length and the ability to play all over the floor. He can handle it, shoot it from distance and can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket off the dribble. He was putting together a strong performance on Saturday before leaving the contest in the fourth quarter. He is among the state’s most intriguing prospects due to his size, length and well-rounded skill set.
