Continue Reading2020 6’7 Terrance Williams of Gonzaga High School has stepped into a more of a leadership role for his tea with the graduation of Myles Dread and is trying to get his team back into the WCAC finals. Over this past weekend he led his team help win a pivotal WCAC matchup against St. John’s. His Gonzaga team was down 10 points entering the 4th quarter but that didn’t phase him or his team.
“Well you know we came out sluggish, I was not hitting any shots, I started the second half with only two points but Coach Turner told me to keep going and my teammates trusted me.”
If it was not for Terrance’s ability to attack the rim and score down low, we probably would have walked away talking about a St. John’s win, “Coach Turner said before the 4th quarter that we are going to run the offense through you whether if it is by you passing or scoring so you know my teammates put the ball in my hands and trusted me.”
As we talked about in the beginning, Williams has a new role this year on his team being one of the veteran leaders, “It is a role that I am still working on, it is not going to happen overnight but I am trying to lead this group of guys especially since a lot of us are young, we have a couple freshman and underclassmen so it is going to be a good challenge.”
All of these traits William’s brings to the court has allowed him to be recruited by some of the top schools in the country.
“It has been going well, everybody is in season but a couple of coaches still talk to me in season so it is going good.”
When asked which schools are making him a priority, he said, “Stanford, UVA, Louisville, Michigan, NC State and Virginia Tech.”
He was able to take an official visit out west to Stanford this fall and absolutely loves the pitch they have to offer, “It was a great trip, it is a great school and all of that, it was nice out there but the main pitch was that I could come in and get the best of both worlds, on the court and off the court. The opportunity to come in and you know what you are going to get, I mean it is Stanford, you are not going to get that at a lot of other schools.”
One of his AAU teammates, Casey Morsell, has signed his letter on intent to Virginia and is telling Williams to join him in Charlottesville, “Coach Williford has been recruiting me since day 1, since I was a freshman, they have been there from the start and Casey Morsell keeps putting it in my ear that UVA is a great school.”
Louisville has a new staff and Williams definitely see’s the Cardinals being a viable option for him, “It is a new staff but I do trust them, they have a good 2019 class and they keep talking to me about that 2020 class they are trying to make up and I am definitely involved with them.”
Michigan started recruiting the forward in the middle of the summer, “They started recruiting me after Peach Jam and their main pitch to me is that I could come up there and be a big factor coming into my freshman year.”
NC State was the first school to offer him which has made them one of the most loyal schools recruiting him, “Coach Keatts gave me me my first offer so you know they have been loyal from the start, again, coming in as a freshman and doing well.”
Virginia Tech has another one of his AAU teammates committed in their 2019 class, “Anthony Harris has been telling me to come up there too, just like Casey Morsell with UVA. I like Buzz Williams, he came and visited me during open gym, main point to me was to just keep working because nothing is going to get promised to you, he just reminded me that you have to keep putting in the work and you will get the results.”
