The Bulldogs overcame the deficit, outscoring the Barons 26-6 in the fourth to win by a final count of 63-58. Here we recap this hard-fought contest with the 10 best.
BEST PLAYER | ERIK REYNOLDS | BULLIS ‘21
Erik Reynolds was by far the best player for Bullis, but it should be emphasized that he got the job done on both ends of the floor. Reynolds did a nice job defending B-CC’s best perimeter players, and recorded 4 steals to go along with a game-high 21 points. Despite going 0 for 3 from long range, the long-armed and crafty sophomore impressed not only with his adeptness slashing to the basket and consistently finishing gracefully in traffic, but also knocked down all five of his free throw attempts.
BEST SHOOTER | COLE DOHERTY | B-CC ‘19
Cole Doherty might be the best shooter that no one has ever heard of. B-CC’s unsigned senior, a catch-and-shoot specialist who started this game, hit 3 of 6 from downtown on his way to scoring 13 points.
BEST REBOUNDER | CJ AMSELLEM | BULLIS ‘19
CJ Amsellem got into a good rhythm early in this game by pounding the boards with tenacity. The 6-foot-7 senior relentlessly used his robust frame to carve out space and anchor himself in the paint which put him in good position to secure all 14 of his rebounds, 8 of which were offensive. Amsellem also knocked down all four of his free throw attempts on his way to scoring 10 points.
BEST SLEEPER PERFORMANCE | CAM ETRIS | B-CC ‘19
Etris shot 5 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 from long range.B-CC’s offense was humming for at least two-thirds of game, and Cam Etris was the hub for most of their action. The 6-foot-5 lefty did commit four turnovers, but handed out six dimes to go along with 10 rebounds and 12 efficient points.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | NENDAH TARKE | BULLIS ‘19
It ultimately did not make too much of a difference that Nendah Tarke was brought off the bench in this game, because he played well and closed the game in strong fashion. Tarke seemed to get stronger as the game went on, and despite hitting just 5 of 10 from the line, recorded 11 rebounds to go along with 15 points.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | RODNEY RICE | BULLIS ‘22
Rodney Rice gained some valuable experience in this one, and showed his confidence by knocking down a clutch three to give his team the lead late in the fourth. It should also be noted that Rice did not commit a turnover, but stuffed the stat sheet elsewhere, recording 3 assists, 3 blocks, 2 rebounds, and a steal.
BEST UNSIGNED SENIOR | KEVIN MCAULIFFE | B-CC ‘19
Kevin McAuliffe was a solid all-around contributor for B-CC in this one. The 6-foot-2 wing was efficient with the ball, and did a nice job hitting the boards as well as finding his teammates for easy looks.
BEST PLAY | OMARI SALVI | BULLIS ‘20
Omari Salvi showcased his leaping ability in the first half when he went baseline, took a gather step off two feet and dunked with two hands in traffic. This was the most memorable play of the game, and a nice highlight play for Salvi who is growing into a bigger role this season.
BEST DEFENSIVE POTENTIAL | ELIJAH WOOD | B-CC ‘20
Elijah Wood didn’t check into this game until under three minutes were left in the first half, but made his impact felt by recording a block, a steal, hitting two free throws, and assisting on two made threes before the halftime buzzer went off. Wood’s length, athleticism and anticipation skills were once again on display in the second half, when he intercepted a pass and took it down to the other end for an emphatic slam. When engaged, he can be an elite defensive presence.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
B-CC started the season ranked as a top-30 team in our initial power poll, but have been slow off the mark with a 1-4 record through their first five games. Based on what we saw in this game, the team has to work out some chemistry issues. The talent is there, but it will be interesting to see how this team can respond after starting off poorly.
