Most Likely to Have a Breakout Season: Charlie Woodhams
Charlie Woodhams is a 6’2 Junior guard from Ostego High School. He made first team All-Conference last year and honorable mention All-State Class B. Otherwise known as Charlie “Buckets”, he played his AAU ball over the summer with MBA. His best asset is his motor and ability to push the ball up the court. His capacity to distribute the ball to open teammates is often overlooked by other teams as he is known as a scorer and great finisher. Because of his hustle, Woodhams manages to crash the boards and sneak in behind defenders and grab rebounds.
“Buckets” mostly plays the power or shooting guard who competes at his own pace, slowly piling up points within the flow of the game. Woodhams does a good job of recognizing mismatches and takes them to the block. He runs the floor hard all day long and gets a considerable amount of transition tip-ins. He squares up nicely on the defensive end and has a high basketball I.Q. His quick strong hands allow him to disrupt ball handers.
During his run with MBA over the summer, Woodhams performed terrifically. The 16U team climbed the rankings and made the final four of several big tournaments.
Look for Woodhams to take over from the graduation of All-Conference teammates Jason Weber and Zak Lucas. Otstego brings back a solid supporting cast with seniors Addison Atwater and Will Eldred who will take the pressure off of Woodhams. A year older and wiser this is setting up to be a pivotal year in the prospect’s growth. Don’t sleep on this player as he will most certainly make you wake up.
