Inside the Numbers: Dell Rapids St. Mary’s
Dell Rapids St. Mary’s had their best season in over 10 years in 2017-18. They finish the regular season with a record above .500 for the first time in 10 years.
Their star player Connor Libis is only going to be a sophomore this year and already completed his football and cross country seasons.
For the Cardinals, they are looking to improve to better their record from last year.
Take a look as we go inside the numbers from the 2017-18 Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Cardinals:
57.8
The Cardinals averaged about 57.8 points per game last year. With their leading scorer returning I’d expect that number to stay the same or even grow this coming season.
34
The Cardinals shot 34 percent from the field last year. They connected on 126-out-of-466 three-pointers for 27 percent.
32
St. Mary’s averaged just over 32 boards a game. On the shorter side of the stick, the Cardinals still found several ways to grab both offensive and defensive rebounds.
16
The Cardinals forced 17 turnovers a game on about 7 steals per game. Their assist/turnover ratio was 0.7 compared to their opponents 0.6 a game.
4
St. Mary’s played in 4 overtime periods. They defeated Lake Preston 70-68 in 3OTs and Gayville-Volin 58-53 in 1 OT. They outscored their opponent 32-25 in the four overtime periods.
18
Sophomore Connor Libis is 18 points shy of hitting 1,000 career points and will more than likely achieve that in the first few games if not the first game of the season. He could be on pace to break 2,000 points before he graduates.
Dell Rapids St. Mary’s start their 2018-19 season against Coleman-Egan on December 7th.
