Best Available 2019 Shooting Guards
We are in the midst of the early signing period for high school basketball. There are many prospects that will not sign this week and see their recruitments continue through the high school season. PrepHoopsIllinois takes a look at the best available prospects at each position heading into the season here! Here are the Best Available 2019 Shooting Guards!
Myles Baker (Whitney Young)
Overall Ranking: #9
Projected Level: MM-
Baker is the top uncommitted two guard in the state. He had a tremendous spring with Team Rose. Ability to create his own shot off the bounce really improved and his feathery jumper was on point. We believe he is massively over looked and is primed for a big year on the state’s most talented team.
Anthony Fairlee (Springfield Southeast)
Overall Ranking: #22
Projected Level: LM
Fairlee is a freak show athlete on the perimeter. Strong and athletic wing that is working on improving his skill set. Rebounds well for a guard and has defensive potential.
Antonio Reeves (Simeon)
Overall Ranking: #23
Projected Level: LM
Reeves transferred back to Illinois from his year of prep ball in Arizona. Reeves is a plus plus shooter from three that is best off the catch. Potential defensively with his length.
LJ Johnson (Kenwood)
Overall Ranking: #30
Projected Level: LM-
Johnson is another prospect that moved back to Illinois and he will be playing for Kenwood this season. Power wing with strength. Plays above the rim and with a high-motor on both ends of the floor.
Christopher Burnell (Rockford East)
Overall Ranking: #35
Projected Level: D2
Burnell has strength on the perimeter. Proved in July that he could play on and off the ball. At his best attacking downhill and has improved his jumper.
Donovan Clay (Alton)
Overall Ranking: #37
Projected Level: D2
Long and rangy wing that can play both the two and three spots. Excels at shooting it off the catch from deep. Like his potential defensively as well. Three and D wing at next level.
Deonte Billups (Moline)
Overall Ranking: #38
Projected Level: D2
Billups had a strong July with QCE. Displayed his ability to play some on the ball while still scoring. Was more efficient doing that which helped him in our eyes.
Mitch Mascari (Geneva)
Overall Ranking: #43
Projected Level: D2
Mascari is a coveted commodity at the D2 level. Size on the perimeter with a smooth game. Plus shooter from mid-range and can stretch it out to three. Sneaky athlete as well.
Julian Barr (Lincoln Way East)
Overall Ranking: #44
Projected Level: D2
Barr is one of the premier shooters in the state. Lit up the nets with Team RWA on the circuit. Big time perimeter sniper!
Sean Houpt (Danville)
Overall Ranking: #52
Projected Level: D2
Houpt is a combo guard with a sweet lefty shooting stroke. Brings toughness and competiveness to the table on both ends of the floor. Quality on ball defender.
Justin Eagins (Downers Grove South)
Overall Ranking: #62
Projected Level: D2
Eagins is among the better pure shooters on the board. This lefty is at his best off the catch from three. Also a good pull up shooter from mid-range.
Latik Murphy (Morton)
Overall Ranking: #64
Projected Level: D2
Murphy has seen his stock rise in recent months. Two guard that is a pure scorer with athleticism.
Demetrius Douglas (North Lawndale)
Overall Ranking: #65
Projected Level: D3+
Douglas is a scoring two guard that we really liked in several early evaluations of Team Rose in the spring. He has a smooth scoring game with some developmental upside.
Malik Smith (Alton)
Overall Ranking: #66
Projected Level: D3+
Smith is an intriguing senior wing from the metro east. Flashes scoring potential both with jumper and transition. Consistency is the key. Potential to be an above average defender if he wants to lock in on that end.
Trace Williams (Homewood Flossmoor)
Overall Ranking: NR
Projected Level: D3
Williams will make a nice debut in our next rankings. Impressed us this fall with his smooth offensive game being able to shoot it with fluidity. Potential to play some on the ball with size.
Fillip Bulatovic (Maine South)
Overall Ranking: #81
Projected Level: D3
Very underrated scorer from the Chicago suburbs. Athletic wing that is wired to score with a plus jump shot.
Ikenna Okeke (Romeoville)
Overall Ranking: #88
Projected Level: D3
Okeke is a long and rangy wing that brings it on the defensive end. Flashes offensive potential especially in the open floor as a finisher. Biggest value is defensively right now.
Malcolm Miller (Shelbyville)
Overall Ranking: #89
Projected Level: D3
Miller is a wing scorer with size from downstate. The Shelbyville two guard can get hot shooting it from three and that is where he brings value as a floor stretcher.
Justin Harmon (Curie)
Overall Ranking: #97
Projected Level: D3
Harmon is a prospect that we are interested to see this year. He has had his moments throughout his career, but never really put it together. Handles and can shoot it off the bounce.
