We are in the midst of the early signing period for high school basketball. There are many prospects that will not sign this week and see their recruitments continue through the high school season. PrepHoopsIllinois takes a look at the best available prospects at each position heading into the season here! Here are the Best Available 2019 Point Guards!
Chris Roberts (Morgan Park)
Overall Ranking: #18
Projected Level: LM
Roberts is the top uncommitted lead guard heading into the season. The Lincoln Park transfer is one of the fastest players in the state end to end. Explosive speed in the open floor allows him to get to the rim.
Kejuan Clements (Simeon)
Overall Ranking: #19
Projected Level: LM
Clements will be the senior with the ball in his hands for the Wolverines. Tough and hard-nosed Chicago guard that gets downhill and can hit pull ups. Big year for him on the court and for his recruitment.
Trey Boston (Downers Grove North)
Overall Ranking: #45
Projected Level: D2+
Boston can light it up from the perimeter. With Young & Reckless he was a microwave type scorer with his ability to get hot shooting from three and carrying his team for stretches.
Artese Stapleton (Kenwood)
Overall Ranking: #46
Projected Level: D2
Stapleton is a slick handling point guard that is slithery getting in and out of traffic. Wins off the dribble and has a great knack for making tough layups. Primed for a big season.
Semaj Henderson (Downers Grove North)
Overall Ranking: #47
Projected Level: D2
Physical point guard that makes plays attacking downhill. Really improved his all-around floor game over the summer with the Illinois Heat on the circuit.
Marquise Walker (West Aurora)
Overall Ranking: #49
Projected Level: D2
Walker had a productive high school season last year at Curie. This will be his third high school in four years. Scoring point guard that is flashy. Showed growth at times last year as a passer.
Dashon Enoch (OPRF)
Overall Ranking: #53
Projected Level: D2
Enoch is a tough and hard-nosed point guard that plays with strength. Pushes in open floor, gets to the rim, and locks in on the defensive end of the floor.
Demari Grant (Oswego East)
Overall Ranking: #54
Projected Level: D2
Grant’s stock rose throughout the spring and summer. Quick twitched point guard that is best as a pull up jump shooter from mid-range and three.
Terrion Murdix (Springfield Southeast)
Overall Ranking: #55
Projected Level: D2
Murdix had an excellent junior year leading his team to the state finals, but didn’t make much noise on the circuit. This slick handling guard is a dynamic playmaker with the ball getting others involved and should find a nice home at the college level.
Traevon Brown (West Aurora)
Overall Ranking: #56
Projected Level: D2
Brown is an athletic lead guard that has speed in the open floor. Like his upside and projectability along with his ability to shoot it from really deep.
Luke Yoder (Bloomington Central Catholic)
Overall Ranking: #63
Projected Level: D2
Yoder came on strong at the end of the spring and summer for the Illinois Irish. Calm, cool, and collected point guard that makes sound decisions with the ball. Proved to be a consistent shooter.
Nate Duckworth (Bloomington)
Overall Ranking: #76
Projected Level: D3+
Duckworth is one of the most undervalued prospects at the position. Tough and gritty leader that runs the show making quality decisions time after time. Plus shooter from three that hit some huge shots over the summer.
Treye Tucker (Harlem)
Overall Ranking: #77
Projected Level: D3+
Tucker is a flashy point guard with electric vision. He has a feel for passing in both the half court and transition game. Deep range on three point shot.
JR Cison (Lake Zurich)
Overall Ranking: #78
Projected Level: D3+
Cison is another prospect that just goes about his business and produces. While he is on the smaller size, Cison isn’t afraid to go in among the trees for tough buckets in the paint. Tough kid that is a lethal pull up shooter and is capable of running a team.
Damari Nixon (Curie)
Overall Ranking: #79
Projected Level: D3+
Nixon provides size and projectability as a combo guard. The lefty handles it decent, but where he really excels is letting it fly from deep especially off the catch. Good athlete.
Jack McDonald (Geneva)
Overall Ranking: #84
Projected Level: D3+
McDonald is a high IQ point guard that just makes others around him better. Crisp passer in the half court that puts his teammates in positions to succeed. Capable shooter.
Josh Berry (Lyons)
Overall Ranking: #86
Projected Level: D3
Berry is a smart point guard that makes plays for himself and others. Saw his stock rise with a strong July with Mercury Elite and at various camps.
Nolan Niego (Lyons)
Overall Ranking: #90
Projected Level: D3
Niego is a prospect that has been on radar for quite a few years. This point guard can shoot the basketball especially well from mid-range and doesn’t make mistakes on the court.
William King (Glenbrook South)
Overall Ranking: #91
Projected Level: D3
King is a crafty point guard with excellent size. Vision in the half court is one of his strengths along with a decent perimeter jumper.
Jaheim Holden (Evanston)
Overall Ranking: #92
Projected Level: D3
Holden is a tiny left handed guard that weaves in and out of defenses. Speed in the open floor and drills mid-range pull ups.
Matas Masys (Willowbrook)
Overall Ranking: #98
Projected Level: D3
This might be the best pure shooter on the board. Lights out off the catch and moving without the basketball!
