Region 8 – AAAAA (2019) Players to Watch
Region 8 – AAAAA will have plenty of seniors to watch this coming season. Currently just one is off the board as of now and also a new player has been added to the mix this season.
Preseason Player of the Year : Jamal Edmonson – Ashley Ridge HS (Francis Marion (SC) NCAA D2 commit)
Edmonson averaged 21.3 ppg and 8.7 rebounds for the Swamp Foxes. Edmonson started off at Stall HS in the 8th grade and then attended Northwood Academy for 3 seasons before coming to Ashley Ridge HS.last year. Edmonson is in the ball park of 2,000 career points.
Jalen Williams – Ashley Ridge HS – Recently transferred back to the area from playing out in Long Island at Our Savior New American the past 3 seasons. Williams a point guard started off his career at Pinewood Prep.
Romello Grant – Stall HS
Grant had a huge season last year for the Warriors. Grant plays bigger than his size and plays best around the basket. Grant averaged 24.7 ppg and 13 rebounds last season for the Warriors. Grant started off his career at Military Magnet. Grant played this summer with Rock Nation Impact.
Seth Rivers – Stall HS
Rivers 6’7 averaged 5.5 blocks last season while swatting away 142 shots. Rivers averaged 7.7 ppg and 9.6 rebounds for the Warriors. Rivers has made great progress over the years with his play in the paint.
Jalen Bailey – Stall HS
Bailey a jet quick left-handed guard can really turn the corner fast with the ball in his hands. Bailey averaged 15.2 ppg and 4.3 assists last season. Bailey came over with Grant last season from Military Magnet.
Devin Ramsey – West Ashley HS
Ramsey 6’7 has the tools and just needs to figure things out to be effective at times on the floor. Ramsey will play with his back to the basket for the Wildcats.
Marlon “OJ” Hill – West Ashley HS
Hill stayed off the grid this summer and didn’t play any Grassroots basketball. Hill is a extremely athletic guard who can really stalk the baseline when he wants to do it. Hill really has some of his best basketball in front of him.
Kenyatta Jenkins – West Ashley HS
Jenkins moonlights on the football field as a quarterback the past few seasons for the Wildcats. Jenkins a dual threat quarterback can knockdown shots on the floor. Jenkins averaged 12.2 ppg last season for the Wildcats.
Peter Musci – West Ashley HS
Musci transferred into the West Ashley HS last season after starting off at Chapin HS. Musci plays with some toughness and grit while on the floor.
Latrell Marshall – Fort Dorchester HS
Marshall still seems to be figuring things out on the floor. Marshall rebounds the ball well on both ends and plays extremely hard at all times. Marshall will post up and plays extremely active in the passing lanes. New Patriots Head Coach Jacob Smith will look for leadership out of Marshall this coming season.
Mark Mazyck – Summerville HS
Mazyck is a rangy player who seems to play his best basketball around the paint. Mazyck scored 33 points in the victory over Fort Dorchester last season. Mazyck averaged 12.5 ppg last season for the Green Wave.
Derrick Larry – Summerville HS
Larry had a 3 to 1 assist-turnover ratio last season for the Green Wave. Larry a tough minded point guard plays defensive back on the football field in the fall.
