Recruiting Report: Malik Willingham (2019)
Malik Willingham was outstanding this summer. The Waseca guard had one of the best summers of anyone when he put up huge numbers for Minnesota Select. And now, finally, he’s picked up offers that he earned a long time ago.
“I just got an offer from Concordia St Paul and Montana Billings,” Malik recently told Prep Hoops.
For Malik it was a long time coming. This is a top 20 level prospect in Minnesota’s senior class. Now Malik is just thankful to have the opportunity.
“The offers felt great,” Malik said. “I’m glad to get them from such great schools! It was an awesome moment for me and my family.”
Willingham led a young group of Jays to a 26-4 season falling to a veteran Mankato East team in the section finals. Now as a veteran club led by Malik – who scored 20 points a game as a junior – what does Willingham expect of his senior year?
“My goals in Waseca are to show the state that we can play with/against any team in the state and to prove why we are one of the top teams in the state.
“I’m also looking to playing with my guys for my last year and going out with hopefully a title in our hands but before that can happen it all starts with hard work and how bad we want it.”
The Jays will start the season as a top 3 or 4 team in class AAA. But that is still six weeks away. Right now is football season and the Jays are 4-2 with Malik a top receiver and defensive back.
