Top 250 Camp : 2019 Guards
The Prep Hoops 250 Expo will take a look at some of the guard play from the 2019 class in this article. The event took place this past weekend at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center. The event was previously set for September 16th but Hurricane Florence had different ideas.
Rashamel Butler 6’3 Ridgeland-Hardeeville HS
Butler really likes to have the ball in his hands. Butler averaged 19 ppg, 5.5 rebounds and 4,6 assists last season for the Jaguars. The Jaguars finished the season at (23-2). Butler a lefty can really attack the basket
Kassius “Jay” Williams 6’0 Socastee HS
Williams a left-handed point guard really likes to play the game with some swag at times. Williams can switch gears and get by defenders with ease at times. Williams is very vocal on the floor and is back to lead the Braves offense for a second season this year. Williams has bounced around in the past and now seems to find a home in Braves Country.
Caleb Leverette 6’3 South Aiken Baptist (Aiken) (pictured on front)
Leverette has a very slender sleek frame. Leverette averaged 27 ppg last season at the SCISA 1-A level. Leverette struggled a bit today at times finishing at the rim. Leverette is a very deceptive athlete who can really knockdown shots on the perimeter. Leverette plays with a great attitude and leaves it all out on the floor with his effort.
Devin Butler 6’2 Ridgeland-Hardeeville HS
Butler is just 16 years old and the younger brother of Rashamel. Butler a senior also in the classroom can really take a defender off the dribble and get to the basket. Devin seems to be more of a shooter on the perimeter. Devin averaged 11.1 ppg last season for the Jaguars.
Jevon Griffin 6’3 Socastee HS
Griffin recently transferred over from nearby North Myrtle Beach HS. Griffin likes to set up shop generally in the corners. Griffin a left-handed shooting guard connected on some three pointers here today. Griffin tends not to force shots but really does play at a easy pace on the floor.
AJ Jackson 5’10 Mauldin HS
Jackson a point guard can get the ball into the gaps. Jackson has a nice mid-range game off the bounce. Jackson always seemed to be in the right position on the floor and has a great nose for the ball. Jackson will be the team leader this season for the Mavericks.
Michael McDowell 6’0 Shannon Forest Christian (Greenville)
McDowell is a left-handed shooting guard. McDowell has a thick frame and a bit of a old-school type game. McDowell uses the set shot to perfection and did knockdown a few three pointers today.
Kenynon Scott 5’11 Darlington HS
Scott likes to play off the ball and today he did just that in the camp. Scott connected on some shots from behind the arc. Scott really played well on defensive end picking up some steals and finding the open man in transition.
Marquez Terry 6’0 North Charleston HS
Terry a left-handed shooter never seems to stop smiling. Terry needs time and space for his shot but, when open your in trouble. Terry can really knockdown open shots.
Jonathan Wright 5’9 Socastee HS
Wright is a tough minded kid that can bury shots from 3 point range. Wright won’t pass the look test but he just leaves it all out on the floor. Wright can run off 5-6 made three pointers in a hurry and is not afraid to pull it from 25 feet.
Tyshaun Johnson 5’11 Darlington HS
Johnson is a floor general for the Falcons. Johnson really likes to push the tempo and pressure the ball on the defensive end of the floor.
