Who stands out at the top when it comes to the point guards in the 2021 class? We examine the top floor generals in the sophomore class in our latest rankings update!
Anthony Sayles (Niles Notre Dame)
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Overall Ranking: #4
Sayles is the clear top 2021 point guard in the state of Illinois at this stage. He has electric speed in the open floor. Pushes the pace and has also developed over the spring and summer into being able to run a team in the half court. The Niles Notre Dame lead guard can score off the bounce as well as being effective off the ball as a wing scorer at times. Like what he brings defensively with his lateral quickness, anticipation, and active hands.
Kimahri Wilson (Carmel)
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Overall Ranking: #13
Quick and shifty lead guard who has the ball on a string! Gets in the lane where he can dish to teammates or finish at the rim as well with short jumpers. Wilson shined as a freshman at Carmel with his playmaking ability and showed in spurts on the circuit as well.
Bucky Irving (Hillcrest)
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Overall Ranking: #19
Irving is a scoring point guard that did just that for his Fire 15U squad in July. This Hillcrest rising sophomore is a high energy player and plays bigger than his height with his compact strength. Outstanding shooter both off the catch and pulling up off the bounce. Scores on scoop shots in the paint. Also is quick defensively getting steals and going the other way with his speed.
Nathanael Hoskins (Danville)
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Overall Ranking: #23
Hoskins is a point guard from Danville that might not be the most explosive athlete, but he is a crafty guard that has a knack for getting in the lane where he loves to use floaters or make sound decisions with the basketball to get others involved. Very good feel at a young age.
Brandon Hall (Thornton)
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Overall Ranking: #25
Hall is a big 6’3” combo guard that is tough with his physical style of play. The Thornton guard plays with strength getting to the rim consistently where he is a quality finisher through contact.
Kenton Wright (Hillcrest)
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Overall Ranking: #28
Wright made several clutch plays late in the summer at PrepHoops Summer Challenge. This point guard is known for his speed, short area quickness, and pull up game. All three were on display. He pushed the tempo offensively getting the ball up the floor in a hurry. As a scorer it was all about his jumper connecting regularly from both mid-range and three.
Boopie Miller (Morgan Park)
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Overall Ranking: #29
Boopie is a vocal leader that guys like playing with. He displays an innate ability to score at his diminutive size. Deep range on his three point shot to well beyond the arc and has some athleticism scoring with scoop shots in the paint.
Conor Enright (Mundelein)
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Overall Ranking: #31
Enright is a lead guard that can shoot it off the catch. Tough kid that made some clutch plays in several of the Illinois Wolves victories in July. Takes care of the basketball and makes sound decisions with the ball.
Norvell Meadows (Prosser)
Travel Team:
Overall Ranking: #32
Meadows is a 5’10” scoring point guard that is a volume shooter. Meadows lets it fly from pretty much anywhere. Shot selection needs to improve, but he can definitely put it in the hoop. Capable three point shooter and pushes in transition. When he does pass he actually makes nice dishes. Would like to see him be more of a distributor and improve shot selection.
Noah Reynolds (Peoria Notre Dame)
Travel Team: Brad Beal Elite
Overall Ranking: #34
The lefty is an excellent passer from the lead guard spot. Creativity with his passing finding his teammates. Can throw bullet passes and put touch on it. Capable three point shooter. Solid size on the perimeter.
Isaiah Donnell (Peoria Richwoods)
Travel Team: Brad Beal Elite
Overall Ranking: #35
Donnell has nice size at about 6’2” for the lead guard spot. He can light it up scoring in the open floor. Pushes the tempo and gets to the rim in transition. He and Reynolds are two quality central Illinois guards to watch!
Jordan Rice (Rock Island)
Travel Team: Quad City Elite
Overall Ranking: #36
Rice is a tiny 2021 point guard from Rock Island High School that is a flat out bucket getter! Jump shot is on point drilling pull up threes coming off ball screens. Quickness off the bounce getting in the lane for floaters. Pushes it in the open floor with his speed.
