Prospect Spotlight: James Berry III (2020)
James Berry, a class of 2020 guard at Bishop Ireton, was a standout this past weekend at the Prep Hoops Top 250 in Baltimore. Berry is coming off a strong AAU season with Mid-Atlantic Select, and looks poised for a productive junior campaign. During a recent interview with Prep Hoops, he spoke more on his overall game and much more.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, describe your game.
JB: “I’m a long, athletic guard who plays fast, but can also play at a certain tempo. I don’t overthink plays, and I love to play defense.”
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your overall game?
JB: “Rebounding.”
PH: What’s the most improved part of your game in the past few months?
JB: “Probably getting to the cup.”
PH: What do you need to work on?
JB: “My jump shot needs to be automatic, and getting stronger. Definitely getting stronger.”
PH: How’s your role going to change this year compared to last?
JB: “I’m going to have the ball in my hands a lot more. My coach is going to look to me to make more plays than last year. I’m not really just a shooter anymore. I can get to the cup, I can play defense, he’s going to want me to rebound. I’m one of the best rebounders on the team.”
PH: How are your grades?
JB: “Right now I’ve got all A’s. My cumulative GPA is around a 3.3.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
JB: “Intensity. That winning attitude. I don’t like to lose. I do whatever I can to help my teammates out, and myself out. Extra hours in the gym. Rebounding, scoring, whatever they need me to do.”
