Malik Watts
Here is a look at some of 2019 Guards that attended the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo this last Sunday. I didn’t get a chance to check out every player at the Expo, but I did get to see most. These players really stood out and should have a great Senior Season.
Jax Holland 6’2” Maranatha Christian Academy
Jax was a player that caught my attention right away. He’s a SHOOTER, and if left open, he’s more than likely going to knock it down. Holland played with a load of confidence throughout the entire day and was easily one of the best at the Expo. The thing I liked about Holland is that he never tried to do too much. I spoke with a few coaches, and they really liked his play. He really surprised me when he picked off a pass and jammed it for a breakaway bucket. Look for Holland to have a huge Senior Season.
Nolan Ford 6’1” Basehor Linwood
Ford has been talked about for a couple of years now. He unfortunately has run into some injury issues but seems to have recovered fine and still looks solid on the court. He’s not the quickest or the most athletic, but he’s a very smart player and does what it takes to win the game. His basketball IQ is one of the highest on the court and he has great vision. He can score the ball when needed but is great at getting his teammates involved as well.
Tymer Jackson 6’0” Olathe North
Tymer Jackson really surprised me when I first saw him play. What he really excels on is the separation he can get between himself and the defender at any given time. He is a pretty quick guard and can be explosive as well. He’s one of those hard nose players who will risk it all for a loose ball. He played very well as a team player, but if he needs to, he has the ability to take over and get a bucket if needed.
Mason Colangelo 6’3” St Thomas Aquinas
Colangelo is a player that knows his role. He’s not going to try and do too much which in the end could hurt his team. This kid has a solid basketball IQ and that is an attribute that many coaches want. Not only does he know the game, he can shoot the ball when left open.
Taegan Sumner 6’1” Rossville High School
Sumner was a kid that really surprised me on Sunday. He can shoot it from the outside, but he really excelled around the basket. He was able to finish through all kinds of contact. Sumner should be able to put together a solid Senior Year at Rossville and might be one of the better players in the league.
Keyon Thomas 5’11” Bonner Springs
Keyon and a surprise to no one, showed what he can do on the court on an everyday basis Sunday afternoon. This young man is one of the hardest working players on the court and plenty of coaches have taken notice. He’s a very quick guard who can and will knock down open looks from the outside.
