1 on 1: Sid James
Sid James is a 6’3 combo guard from Hillcrest Prep. Sid has demonstrated his great shooting ability and has really made an impression on me due to how coach-able he is. Sid should get a lot of national attention this year and gather some serious college interest.
1. Introduce yourself. Give a little background info about yourself (height, position, class, etc.)
Hi, I’m Sid James and I’m originally from Missouri. I’m 6’3 and I play the point guard position and sometimes the 2 spot. I’ll be graduating in the 2019 class.
2. How has your experience been at Hillcrest Prep?
So far my experience at Hillcrest Prep has been great and I love it here. I’ve just been getting in the gym everyday getting better.
3. Where are you in your recruiting process? Any offers?
My recruiting process has been good. I’ve had different coaches talk to me and show some interest. No offers yet, but I just gotta trust the process and keep working.
4. You are a very coach-able player. Where does that come from?
Being a coachable player definitely comes from my dad. He was my high school coach before I moved to Hillcrest. He always instilled in me that when people correct you they’re trying to make you better not put you down or anything like that so I’ve always appreciated when coaches try to correct what I’m doing so I can be a better player.
5. What would you say is your biggest on-court strength?
My biggest strength is definitely my shooting ability. It causes defenders to stay up on me the whole time. Which opens up space and then allows me to create for others and set them up.
6. What would you like to improve on?
I can always improve on everything really. My shot is good, but it’s still one thing I always try to keep improving on because shooting opens up everything.
7. What sets you apart from everyone else? Why should college coaches recruit you?
One thing I feel that sets me apart from others is I go 150% no matter what I’m doing whether it’s practices, workouts, etc. I will always go hard and I’m a team player and I will always try to get everyone involved. I feel like college coaches should recruit me cause I feel like I can bring a lot to a team and bring leadership from the point guard spot.
8. How is school? Grades? GPA?
School is good. I work as hard in school as I do on the court. I’m a straight A kid and I average a 4.0.
9. What motivates you?
Making my family proud is definitely something that motivates me. Also, just waking up everyday and making myself and my own brand better for the future is something that motivates me.
10. Why basketball? (Why do you play/love basketball)
Basketball was the first sport I played my dad was a basketball coach growing up so I started at a young age and just fell in love with the game. Also, my older brother played basketball so I wanted to follow his footsteps. I just love the basketball lifestyle! It’s definitely the best sport.
