Recruiting Report: Sawyer Stoltz (2019)
Every few years, the game of basketball has some changes that you can see develop. The latest of which has been the development of the post player positions and their transition to more of a stretch, a guy who can play inside and out.
Huntington North’s Sawyer Stoltz is a prime example of someone who will be able to take advantage of this at the next level. The 6’9 forward is really solid as a post player who really just needs a little more strength to really play up but it is his ability to step out and shoot and have the comfort of being on the perimeter that really stands out.
Stoltz is a really good shooter for his size and at 6’9, he provides assets on the interior with his rebounding and rim protection. He’s pretty solid as well as a finisher inside, finishing with length but could become quite a bit better with a full year of strength training. All that combined, allows him the versatility on the floor and that is a trend that colleges like to take advantage of.
To date, Stoltz holds one offer from Huntington University but he’s been drawing in a good amount of programs from Indiana and Michigan. Taylor, Huntington, Goshen, Anderson have shown interest along with Michigan programs Siena Heights and Aquinas.
With a few visits set up, Stoltz should start to get an idea of what his options are going to be. He will take a visit to Siena Heights on September 7th and Anderson on September 28th. Stoltz, however, has an idea of some of the programs on his list to show the latest interest.
Taylor: “Honestly, I really like Taylor the best because I like the guys on the team, great/modern campus, good academics, nice facilities. Close to home, but not too close.”
Anderson: “I like Anderson because of Coach (Owen) Handy. He is super committed as far as reaching out almost daily and has said he plans to come to most workouts here before the season. Also, just about an hour from home so that is nice.”
Siena Heights: “I like Siena Heights because of the location and campus. Coach Capps is awesome and we have built a pretty good relationship thought (my) recruitment.”
Aquinas: “Aquinas is in Grand Rapids and that is a nice city. I’m excited to check out the campus and facilities because I have never been there.”
Goshen: “I like Goshen because of the way they play and Coach (Jon) Tropf is cool. I have been on campus a few times and have played there and like it.”
