Recruiting Report: Marcus Dockery (2020)
Marcus Dockery, a class of 2020 point guard prospect from Washington D.C., is quickly establishing himself an elite lead guard recruit in the Mid-Atlantic. His decision to transfer from Theodore Roosevelt to Bishop O’Connell is arguably one of the most significant moves of the offseason. During a recent interview with Prep Hoops, Dockery broke down his recruitment, goals, and overall game among other topics.
PH: What was the biggest lesson you learned while competing against other top level competition this summer?
MD: “The biggest lesson I learned this summer was to not worry about anyone I play against because I can compete just as good as the top players.”
PH: What’s the most improved part of your overall game in the last 6 months?
MD: “The most improved part in my game in the last 6 months is my IQ for game and the love for it. Going through an injury has shown me that I really love the game of basketball.”
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your overall game?
MD: “The most underrated part of my game is my defense.”
PH: How are your grades?
MD: “I have a 3.1 GPA.”
PH: Which schools have offered you?
MD: “Bryant, Cincinnati, JMU, GW, La Salle, Mount St. Mary’s, Rhode Island, Siena”
PH: What do schools tell you they like about you?
MD: “When schools speak about what they like about me, they mainly refer to my high IQ, jump shot, and my ability to move without the basketball to get shots other than being ball dominant.”
PH: Which schools are trying to get you on campus?
MD: “Louisville, Oklahoma State, Rhode Island, Seton Hall.”
PH: What are you working on?
MD: “Becoming a better leader, ball handling, Jump shot, defense, and all my offensive skills.”
PH: What are your short and long term goals?
MD: “My short term goals are to become a top 10 ESPN ranked player for the class of 2020, Win a high school championship, and to graduate. My long term goals are to become the best basketball player that I can be and to make it to he highest level possible.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
MD: “I’m a hard worker, a very enthusiastic leader, a great scorer from all angles on the floor, and a long lanky point guard who straps full court if you need him to.”
