Prospect Update: Jahlani Blair (2019)
With a senior season still ahead to showcase himself, Spring Valley wing Jahlani Blair is confident that he can generate some late scholarship offers.
The 6-foot-4 prospect is currently ranked as a top-20 prospect in Nevada’s 2019 rankings, and says he’s been working to improve his shooting and leadership abilities of late.
“I’ve really been trying to work on my off-the-dribble shooting, especially coming off the pick-and- roll,” Blair said. “I’ve been working on being more of a vocal leader than I was last year, and just tightening up everything, so I can be ready for the next level.”
Blair spent his 17U offseason with Vegas Elite and 702 Select. “I feel like I did well being a good teammate and being a very good leader and vocalizing my opinion, talking on defense — just doing what I needed to do when I needed to do it,” he said.
Now, Blair can shift focus to his senior season with the Grizzlies. And he knows that all eyes will be on him.
“My role from last year has gotten bigger, I’ll have all eyes on me. And everybody is watching what I’m doing, which I embrace,” said Blair. “And I’ll have to do more than expected for us to go far in the playoffs this year.”
As for recruitment, there are no offers on the table yet for Blair. He does, however, have a lots of interest, and three unofficial visits planned for this Friday.
“I got a couple more schools in the mix, like San Jose State and Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and Cal Lutheran and Portland State.”
Tomorrow, he’ll be headed to Pepperdine, Cal State Lutheran and Cal State Northridge for unofficial visits.
Between now and next spring, he’s confident he’ll nab an offer or more.
“I hope to gain a full scholarship offer to a D1 school,” said Blair. “I’m confident that I’ll get that offer during the season, or after.”
