Inspire Summer Splash: Phx Rebs day-one top performers
The Phoenix Rebs basketball club went 2-0 on the first day of competition at the Inspire Courts Summer Splash tournament in Gilbert, Arizona, fighting for every point in two close victories over rival clubs.
Here are four players that stood out on the first day of competition:
- Deshawn Pearson:
Marshall, who took a hard scratch to the face and played most of the day with a bandage, did not let a little injury ruin his hustle and athleticism all day. With just six players, subs were light, but he did not miss a beat, getting to the basket in both games to hit layups and draw fouls. He also locked in on the defensive end, facing other team’s quality wings head-on and making their days difficult.
- Lemaica Westbrook
The point guard for the team, Westbrook hit several jumpshots, both open and contested, from behind the line to keep the Rebs ahead. He rebounded well over opposing guards, and got the team out in transition off blocks and steals. However, his biggest contribution seemed to come as a team leader, always talking and encouraging teammates to play their best.
- Javon Lamb
Lamb made his presence felt mostly on the defensive end, getting steals and causing errant passes against his man, which led to easy points on the offensive end. He did not have to carry much of the team’s scoring load, but certainly hit his fair share of shots in the flow of the offense. He also set a few good screens and helped other players get open.
- Khyri Marshall
Like Lamb, Marshall did not have to score a whole lot to be effective in this game, though the flashed the ability to do so. His rebounding and ability to make the correct outlet pass was huge for the Rebs. He also played tough interior defense.
