Chicago Summer Jam: Friday Night Standouts
Romeoville, Il — Prep Hoops Illinois was in attendance for the first night of action at the Baylor Youth Chicago Summer Jam in Romeoville, Il. The first week of live period play brought out some standouts who were looking to impress in front of college coaches. We take a look at some of the top performances of the evening here in Chicago Summer Jam: Friday Night Standouts.
Friday Night Standouts
SF – 2020 6’5’’ Ramean Hinton – Team Rose (Curie HS)
Ramean Hinton had a strong opening night for Team Rose 16U the bouncy 6’5’’ Small Forward sat the first half vs Full Package but came out in the 2nd and quickly asserted himself on both ends. Hinton is a area rebounder who uses his athleticism to clean up on the glass. Hinton ran the floor well and was able to get out on the break and get baskets in transition. He showed he could score in a variety of ways hitting a spot up 3, A couple mid range turnarounds and post ups. I like the versatility of Hinton and came away impressed with his high-motor, aggressiveness and rebounding ability. D1’s should continue to track him over the live period. Hinton finished the game with 15 pts 9 rebounds in one half of play for Team Rose.
SG – 2020 6’3’’ Daniel Florey – Team Rose (St. Ignatius)
Sharpshooting guard Daniel Florey showed off a smooth stroke from deep for Team Rose hitting 4 – triples in a win over Full Package. Florey plays with good pace and a nice skillset. He understands the game and how to pick his spots on offense, a plus passer with good vision he was able to find his teammates for good looks and would feed the hot hand. He was active on the glass and kept plays alive showing he is more than a knock down shooter. Florey finished with 16 pts in the win.
WF – 2021 6’8’’ Nate Santos – Mac Irvin Fire
Santos who just reclassed to 2021 and will attend Loomis Chaffee (CT) is a 6’8’’ wing who can score from all three levels. He uses his size to create mismatches with defenses. He can post up smaller defenders and has added some strength in that area since we last saw him and he can take bigger post players off the bounce to get to the rim. Started off slow from the perimeter but got some shots to fall in the 2nd half. Has solid fundamentals on his shot and a quick release. I like his potential as you see more and more teams going positionless Santos fits that mold. Santos holds offers from Creighton and UW-Milwaukee. Look for that list to grow throughout the Summer and into the fall.
PG – 2020 5’11’’ Marcus Watson Jr. – Mac Irvin Fire (Morgan Park)
The lead guard for Mac Irvin Fire 16U is a ultra quick lefty who was in attack mode all game using his toughness and quickness off the bounce to get into the lane and finish at the rim or draw contact and get to the line. Watson showed a good feel for the game dishing out assists out on the break. He was consistently applying pressure on defense and had multiple steals in the game I scouted.
SF – 2020 6’4’’ Tomas Ferriter – Windy City Magic (Lockport HS)
Ferriter and the Windy City Magic battled against Mac Irvin Fire. Ferriter at 6’4’’ played bigger than his actual size, and showed a nice touch from deep hitting several threes’ to keep WC Magic in the game. Did a good job defensively and on offensive moved well without the ball to get open. A tough gritty player who small colleges should give a look.
SF – 2020 6’6’’ Sangolay Njie – Team Rose (Whitney Young)
The super athletic Whitney Young HS SF Sangolay Njie started off strong on Friday and was aggressive right out the gate for Team Rose. He showed a really soft touch around the rim and has improved his strength and was finishing through contact to connect on a couple nice and-1 baskets off of offensive rebounds. He flashed his leaping ability with a big time dunk out on the break. I liked how he played aggressive, ran the floor and let the game come to him. Njie finished with 13 pts and 7 rebounds in the win.
