Recruiting Report: 2019 Drew Timme
One of the better forwards this past week at NBPA Top 100 Camp was 2019 prospect Drew Timme. Right now Drew stands at 6’10 and can do a lot on both sides of the ball. He was by far one of the hardest playing players at the camp where he averaged 10.4 points and 5 rebounds a game. We were able to catch up with him to talk about a numerous amount of things in Charlottesville.
Drew mentioned about what he liked about the competition of the camp, “Playing against the best is always a good thing. It is always nice to put a name out for yourself and this is the place to do it because everybody can play, there is nobody that can’t go here. You have to play hard every single game.”
Making the Nike Peach Jam was a huge goal that Drew has had since last summer and he discussed that with us.
“It is a huge deal for me personally to make Peach Jam, because I hate the PIT, it was terrible. I just heard how awesome the Peach Jam is and the atmosphere and that is something I was hungry for. I had a picture of the PIT on my wall with a huge X on it so I was not going back to that.”
Timme is a little more quiet on the recruitment side of things but there were a few schools that he was asked about and he said his take on a few particular schools.
Duke: “Coach Scheyer just hit me up last night and just talked about heavy interest and wanted Coach K to check me out at Peach Jam.”
Virginia: “I just know that it has been number one a lot recently and Coach Bennett has a really tough program and they are consistent at the top so it is a great school.”
Michigan: “Bellien came down to my school to check me out about two or three months ago and I talked to him and Coach Yaklich talks to me about getting up to campus.”
Arizona: “They are a great program. They got in trouble obviously but that was a concern I had because I don’t want to go somewhere where there are sanctions because I want to hopefully have a chance to play in the NCAA tournament and the good thing was that Coach Miller reassured that the program was okay and cleared and what happened has happened so I think they will be fine after what Coach Miller told me.”
When Peach Jam is over we might know a little more recruitment as he will cut his list to a smaller amount of possible destinations, “After Peach Jam, I am going to sit down and cut my list down to 6-8 schools.”
