Prospect Spotlight: Nolan Ford (2019)
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Coming off a strong junior season with Basehor-Linwood, 2019 point guard Nolan Ford is putting together a big spring with the KC Spurs Silver squad, helping the team put together several big wins.
A smart, heady point guard, Ford is a tough defender, plays hard and brings a high basketball IQ to the floor.
“My game consists of being a gritty, hardworking point guard, who can lock down people on defense and can hit the open shot when I need too on offense,” Ford said. “I’m a great leader, and I love to get my teammates the open shot.”
Ford helped Basehor-Linwood squad go 15-6 overall this season before the Bobcats lost to Piper in the substate championship. He averaging 8.3 points, 4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
“We had a pretty good season as a team, my role consisted of being a solid leader, guarding the other teams best player, getting us into are offense, controlling the tempo of the game, and handling the ball,” Ford says.
Ford says he has learned a lot competing with the KC Spurs Silver squad and helping the team experience some success.
“We always are surprising people because we aren’t the most athletic team, but always find a way to stick in the game,” Ford said. “Teams take us for granted and we really make them pay. I’ve taken a few things from this summer with the Spurs, every team is beatable and that i really need to improve on hitting shots consistently, also changing the pace of how I play by varying up my speed and change of direction.”
Ford is spending the offseason working on his outside shot and becoming a more consistent threat from the 3-point line.
“Also working on finishing at the rim around bigger defenders, because I have a tendency to take my eyes off the rim when I go up,” he said. “Lastly I’m going to work on tightening up my ball handling skills.”
