Battle in Bullhead Honorable Mentions
Wrapping up our top performers list for the Battle in Bullhead is the Honorable Mentions. The following prospects had solid showings at the Battle in Bullhead and competed at a high level. A couple of the prospects are underclassmen who have high ceilings and are worth keeping an eye on going forward.
Battle in Bullhead Honorable Mentions
Justin Chinn 6’3 SF/PF 2018 River Valley
Chinn did a great job of crashing the glass and doing all of the little things needed to win games. He was primarily a role player, but he was an X-Factor for his team due to his effort and competitiveness. Chinn also finished well around the rim and showed that he can guard multiple spots on the defensive end.
Jordan Herbert 6’3 PF 2018 MALC
Herbert has soft hands and finished well around the rim. Despite being slightly undersized, he got a number of offensive rebounds and did a good job of finishing those extra opportunities. Moreover, he does not hold on to the basketball for long periods of times. He moves it well and cuts when he doesn’t have it. His buckets come from extra effort opportunities.
Carter John 5’11 PG 2021 Bradshaw Mountain
John was one of two 2021 prospects who participated in the 2021 game. He created shots well for himself and shot the basketball well from deep. He has a good feel for the game despite his age. Moreover, he has good length and a solid first step that enables him to get to spots on the court despite his youth. He has an extremely high upside and Bradshaw Mountain should be extremely excited about his potential.
Emilio Esquivel 5’10 PG 2018 Coconino
Esquivel took a little while to warm-up. However, once he got going, he shot the basketball extremely well. He is a consistent shooter from deep who can do it in catch and shoot situations as well as off of the dribble. As he gets more comfortable as a true point guard, his production will improve.
Josiah Hooper 6’3 PF 2020 Kingman
Hooper impressed me due to his basketball intellect and willingness to do whatever it took to make an impact. Frequently, he would set on ball screens and roll which would force a switch. He would hold his seal well and either finish or create a foul. Hooper played hard and did not try to do too much. He found whatever his role was on the team and tried to do it to the best of his ability.
Albert Matute 6’3 SF 2020 Etiwanda
Matute had flashes of being a really solid player. He has a good first step and is quite aggressive off of the dribble. Moreover, he has a good vertical and can attack the rim well. Defensively, he did not back down to the more talented players and took it upon himself to guard some of the more talented players. He played with an edge and a chip on his shoulder.
