Adidas Gauntlet: 2021 Wings
The first live period is over and now comes the notes. We are searching through our book and seeing who stood out and made a name for themselves. Here is our evaluations from Adidas Gauntlet Gold this past weekend. These are our notes from the best 2021’s from what we saw.
Cade Haskins – 6’5 / PF / 2021 / De La Salle (MN) / DI Minnesota 2021
Cade is a tall wing with a long, lanky frame. Moves really well and was pretty active in this game. Didn’t shoot it well in the games we watched but had kind of all the tools you want to see. Can play inside and out and look comfortable on the perimeter. Will need to get his legs under him more for his shooting but the promise is there with his frame and agility.
Chrishawn Christmas – 6’4 / SF / 2021 / Gary West (IN) / EG10 2021
Chrishawn is a big wing with tons of length and bounce to his game. He looked improved with his offensive game this weekend. He’s pretty good playing faced up with speed. Best in transition where his handles play up and he can slash and get to the rim. Defensively he took a step forward as well. Going to take a little time to round out his game but the upside is evident and the strides he’s made look good.
Trevor Taylor – 6’2 / SG / 2021 / Edgewood (IN) / EG10 2021
Taylor is a big guard who showed some improved ball handling ability. He was more comfortable with the ball in his hands and was pretty solid creating some scoring opportunities. He’s so big that he’s really tough to defend and creates easy mismatches. He shot the ball okay this weekend but showed his driving ability with that toughness. Continuing his key play from this past high school season.
Andrew Carlton – 6’4 / SG / 2021 / Evansville Reitz (IN) / EG10 2021
Carlton is a big guard with some scoring ability. He looked improved this weekend as he was more efficient with his play and was able to attack the rim from the left side pretty well. He’s a balanced scorer who is decent with the ball in his hands. Will like to see a little more shooting but overall, liked the improved production and effectiveness.
Kooper Jacobi – 6’4 / SF / 2021 / Silver Creek (IN) / Louisville Magic 2021
Jacobi is a lean forward who is a little in between positions right now. He’s a really good shooter off the catch and in the mid-range. Wiry strong and can drive with physicality from 10’ out. Like his ability to play inside with toughness and rebound but long term, he looks like more of a wing forward. Really productive player right now.
Colson Montgomery – 6’4 / SG / 2021 / Southridge (IN) / EG10 2021
Montgomery is a big wing with tons of skill and athletic ability. Three-sport athlete who does well as a slasher with above average ball handling at 6’4. Likes to draw contact and be more physical with his play. Jumper looked okay, just wanted to see it a bit more. He rebounds and defends really well and has all of the tools to make him special. Will be interesting to see if he can lock in on one sport and really develop because he’s got the ability to be really good.
