Recruiting Report: Tyler Cochran (2019)
Bolingbrook 2019 Tyler Cochran is a bigger guard at 6’2” with a physical build. More of a scoring combo that has some point guard abilities. He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Cochran is most effective shooting off the catch from the corners. He drills them at a high rate from that spot. Plays tough in the paint getting on the offensive glass for put backs and finishes through contact at the rim. Excellent rebounder for a combo guard. Also has a knack for being a crafty defender on the defensive end.
We caught up with Cochran to chat about how his game is coming along as a junior?
“I feel like I can shoot the ball a lot better. I have been boxing out and rebounding. Doing whatever my coach or team needs.”
He has to carry an even bigger load with senior guard Kaleb Thornton injured.
“I have to be more aggressive on both the offensive and defensive side. Pick up the pace ten times more than what it has been and do whatever Coach Brost needs me to do.”
Cochran says right now he is not focused on recruiting at all and is leaving that up to his parents, high school coach, and travel team coach with the Hoopers Basketball Club. He has several offers on the table.
“UIC, Western Michigan, NIU, and Toledo.”
Tulsa is a school that is showing quite a bit of interest as well. What will he be looking for in a program?
“Atmosphere. Coaching staff and getting to know the players to make sure they will be good teammates. The school itself is good enough academically and make sure I can fit in there.”
Cochran is the #18 overall prospect in the 2019 class and #6 point guard. Expect him to be a coveted mid-major recruit that will be heavily tracked this spring and summer on the circuit.
