Recruiting Report: Drew Peterson (2018)
Libertyville 2018 small forward Drew Peterson is the top unsigned prospect on the board in the state of Illinois. The 6’6” wing has excellent size and length for his position. He can really score it at a high level which he has done throughout the entire high school career. Peterson is an uber skilled scorer that can get buckets at all three levels. Plus three point shooter and is a solid athlete in transition. PrepHoopsIllinois caught up with Peterson to chat about his senior season.
“We’ve come off a good stretch to end the season going into the playoffs. We just secured our first conference title at Libertyville in 30 years. I’ve been playing well I think. I’m averaging 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. I’ve loved coming into the leadership and being the guy that gets the attention because it frees up room for my teammates. I’ve always been a guy that likes to distribute so I love finding the open guy when I get doubled. I feel like this experience will open up many new aspects of my game because with all the attention I’ve got to work extra hard to get open and create open shots for myself. I can play anywhere around the post to high post to three point line depending on the match up I have.”
What can he bring to a team at the next level?
“I feel that my versatility is unmatched as I can hit shots all over the floor and always find the open guy and best shot available for the team. I’m comfortable shooting with my feet behind the line. I love to get the rebound then run in transition. I’ll always bring the intensity and competitiveness to win. I can score from all three levels.”
The state’s top unsigned senior updates his recruitment.
“Mostly just Rice as they’ve been out to see me every week for the last four weeks. Then that offer a little bit earlier from Santa Barbara.”
He says those are the two schools most involved at this point. Peterson broke each one of them down to PHI.
Rice
“I appreciate when I’m that big of an importance that they’ve come out this much. They tell me I can have a huge impact early on and the staff is great.”
Santa Barbara
“Seems like a great staff and the location and the campus looks awesome.”
Have you scheduled any visits?
“No I’m going to figure all of that out once the season ends.”
Right now Peterson does not have a timetable for making a decision and is leaning toward not playing on the travel team circuit this spring. He has played with the Illinois Wolves on the UAA circuit the last two summers. It seems like the state’s #6 prospects recruitment is trending toward Rice at the moment. To me it blows my mind why more in-state schools and Midwest mid-majors have not offered him. He is a skilled wing scorer that can shoot it. There is still time to make a move, but the clock is about to run out!
