Prospect Spotlight: Marcus Garrett (JUCO)
Wabash Valley freshman combo guard Marcus Garrett who played for the Mac Irvin Fire on the circuit and was a standout for Hillcrest is making the transition nicely to the JUCO level. The 6’1” guard is a strong and athletic scoring point guard. He really can put the ball in the hoop. Sound perimeter shooter from three off the catch and pulling up. Garrett has a burst with the ball and toughness scoring around the hoop. Solid passer with room to improve. Projects as a mid-major to low-major prospect after another year at Wabash.
Garrett chatted with us about his first year of JUCO ball.
“It is going cool. It is a learning experience with it being my first year. I am trying to pick up things as fast as I can and play the game.”
Where has he improved the most since last season?
“Ball handling, decision making, IQ, and on ball defense. My all-around defense has gotten better. Got to be a pesky defender being small as a guard.”
Garrett mentioned that he is picking up on the tricks of the trade that will help him become a better player at the college level.
“The mid-range and scoring off the dribble. Dribbling into shots. Learning the little things. Reading defenders.”
Look for Garrett to become a coveted JUCO prospect over the next year.
