Recruiting Report: Noah Kannegiesser (2018)
One of the most talked about seniors in the state so far this year is Noah Kannegiesser of Hancock. His team is undefeated and Noah is one of the state’s leading scorers.
“We’re off to a 6-0 start and I think we really surprised a lot of people because we lost four starters from last year’s team,” Noah said. “We’re shooting the ball really well as a team right now.
“For me I think I’m playing well, I can always improve, but I feel like I’ve done a good job of being aggressive and making plays for my teammates and myself.”
Noah is scoring nearly 38 points a game including a recent 43 point performance against Ortonville. Noah’s ability to score in many ways is a key reason that Hancock is ranked and undefeated.
“I think I’ve worked hard to improve my game,” Noah said. “In terms of physical skills I worked really hard on becoming a more explosive athlete and this has really helped me especially when it comes to getting a good first step and finishing at the rim.
“I also have been working really hard on my shooting a lot and being able to hit different shots off the dribble, ball screens, off ball screens, and etc. I think I’m playing with a lot of confidence right too. Mentally I think I’m managing the game better than I have ever before.”
Hancock isn’t winning games on Noah’s ability alone. Players like Bennett Nienhaus and Connor Reese have stepped up to have strong seasons as well.
“We lost four starters from last year’s team but the players on this team have really stepped up and have played well. They’re a great group of hard working guys to play with and we all enjoy playing with each other which has made it a lot of fun so far.”
Hancock is 6-0 and has a big game with Morris Area tomorrow. The Owls are in the Pheasant Conference and their win over Ortonville was very important to the team.
“My team goal is for us to win the conference title which hasn’t been in Hancock for 15 years,” Noah said. “I’m really hoping we have the chance to be playing for the section title game as well.
“Personal goal would be to keep working hard and keep improving as the years goes on. I’m closing in on 2,000 points right now, but by the time it’s all said and done I’m hoping to be over 2,500. “
Those are numbers only some of the best scorers usually reach. Noah is one of the state’s best and has several schools calling on him.
“I’ve heard from mix of D2’s, NAIA, and D3’s. My latest visit were to University of Sioux Falls and University of Mary. University of Mary offered me which was exciting. I hope I keep continuing to play well and hopefully pick up some more offers.”
