Recruiting Report: Griffin Sage (2018)
Orono guard Griffin Sage is one of four double figure scores on his team and today he talked with NHR about the season and the schools looking at him.
“Things are going pretty good so far, we’ve lost a couple of games that we feel we should’ve won, but it’s going well besides that,” Sage said.
Orono has played an extremely difficult schedule so far leading to a 6-4 record. Losses against this schedule are nothing to fret about but the Spartans losing two of three to Class AAA teams was not expected.
Max Bjorklund has been out of the line-up but it’s given a chance for Griffen to be relied on more and Sage has scored in double figures the last three contests.
“I feel my defense, rebounding, and basketball IQ have improved this year most compared to years past,” Griffin said. “Most key pieces return from last year and have had some guys that didn’t play much last year step up some this year and play some minutes.
“We will also be better when we’re fully healthy and Max returns. Expect us to be a team that can win any game against any opponent and have fun while doing it.”
Griffen has high expectations for himself and for his team. Sage is close to his 1,000th point as he’s been hitting threes since he was a double figure scorer at Mound-Westonka as an underclassmen.
“An individual goal is to score 1000 points which I should be doing in the next few games and team goal is to win state, nothing less,” Griffen said.
“Lake Region State, Winona State, Mayville State, and some MIACs I’m in contact with.” Griffen said. “I have visited Lake Region State and looking to visit some of the others within the next month or so.”
