Recruiting Report: Bjorn Knutson (2018)
A talented Byron roster is 5-3 on the season but those that question the record need to look deeper at what Bjorn Knutson and his teammates have done.
The wins of the Bears include victories over Armstrong from AAAA as well as Lourdes and Pine Island among others. The losses came to traditionally tough Waconia and Waseca teams by single digits (Waseca is ranked) and a loss to AAAA top ten East Ridge.
“I think our team is doing pretty well,” Knutson said. “Our record is 5-3, but all of our losses come to AAA or AAAA teams. Our coach did a great job crafting a difficult schedule that will help us later on during sections and hopefully state.”
Things don’t get any easier with upcoming road games against Lake City and Good hue and a neutral site game with top ten Holy Family but Byron is prepared for the challenge. Guys like Knutson, Michael Coble, Kaden Koski, and others have several abilities.
“My versatility has continued to grow throughout high school,” Kntuson said. “When I first started getting varsity minutes I was put in at forward to rebound and bring energy, but as I have approached senior year, my skills as a attacker and passer have grown greatly along with my feel for the game.”
Bjorn is scoring 13.4 points per game to go with the 17 a night from Coble and a dozen from Koski.
“Our team is loaded with seniors and this is our year to make a run,” Bjorn said. “My individual goals are to impact the game in as many ways possible and be a leader when our team faces adversity. My team goal is for us to achieve a feeling that no team we face will put more heart into a game.”
Bjorn is both a basketball and a football standout and he could play at the next level in either sport, or both.
“In basketball I’m hearing from Gustavus, Jamestown, Waldorf (offered), Grandview, Mayville State, Dakota State, and U of Chicago.
“In Football I have offers from Drake, Concordia-St. Paul, and St. Cloud State. I’m going to take an official to Winona State soon.”
