Prospect Spotlight: Malik Foster (2018)
Malik Foster spent his first three high school seasons balling with West Jordan, but decided he’d make the switch to Weber Basin for his senior season.
The 5-foot-11 point guard is hoping that switch pays off, and that he can continue his basketball career at the college level.
“I needed a little bit more opportunity to develop as a player, and I liked the coaches here (at Weber Basin). So, it was pretty easy choice,” said Foster of the switch.
A combo-guard with a penchant for setting his teammates up for buckets, Foster mentioned his playing style during a recent interview with PHUT.
“I like to penetrate a lot into the paint, and I don’t really shoot a lot of 3s,” said Foster. “I just like to make the right plays on offense and just get back on defense. I’m very vocal on defense, trying to get everybody in sync.”
Foster says he’s averaging eight points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wolves this winter, and his job is to do a little bit of everything for his team.
“My role is to shoot as much as I can, and crash the boards as much as I can,” he said. “I use a lot of motion to get open and stuff without the ball.”
Foster’s recruitment has been a bit slow up to this point of his career, but he’ll attend the Mountain Hoops Showcase in March; and hopes he can turn some heads there.
“I plan on showing my skills there and hopefully getting an offer,” said Foster. “If I had to name one school right now that might offer, it’d be Snow College.”
