Prospect Spotlight: Carter Buchi (2018)
One of the state’s underrated talents, 6-foot Clearfield guard Carter Buchi is entering the latter part of his senior season with little college interest, but taking a proactive approach to get noticed.
“Right now nothing is going on, but I’ve started to talk to recruiting coaches (NCSA), and I’m going to head to a bunch of camps and showcases after the season and hopefully that can get it picks up,” said Buchi.
“Honestly, I just want to make it to the next level, wherever that may be. I just want to continue how I’m playing and step it up a little more. And the goal is to just get to college and get a scholarship.”
It’s his ability to get to the hoop paired with his adept shooting that make him dangerous, and he’s a capable point guard, too.
“I think I have a pretty good outside shot, and when I’m hitting, I like to make it so that the defender has to come out and guard me, because another strength is attacking and getting to the rim,” said Buchi.
“I also have really good court-vision. I like to find my teammates and set them up for open looks.”
Buchi says it’s creating and hitting jumpers with regularity that he’s working most to improve right now.
“For me, I think it’s consistency with my outside shot is the main thing I’ve been trying to work on,” said Buchi. “That, and just creating mid-range shots just for myself off the dribble.”
As a senior with the Falcons, Buchi is averaging 11.6 points per game, and says thought their record isn’t great, he sees plenty of potential.
“This year is the best we’ve been in awhile, we’re 4-5 but we kind of threw away a couple games. Still, I like what I see out of us, we’ve had a couple where we didn’t look good, but when we do look good we show a lot of potential,” said Buchi.
“All we want to do is make the state playoffs, Clearfield hasn’t been there in a long time, but we think we can do it. We have a tough region, but we think we can knock teams out.”
